Anyone have any further context? I don't understand what makes this so egregious?

I don't think its good conduct, but unless there is more information, I don't see the indefinite suspension.

Yes odd situation. As of now just the team suspending not the league. Thought he might be an old school veteran type but just a young coach. And to have a camera going? Seemingly on a tripod.
Could have been a verbal add on we don't hear. Or he clipped the players glove. That wasn't an atta boy tap. I hear the comments on soft this and that but at the end of the day this league is no different than the others, sponsors don't like bad press. This one looks to be on the barest of offsides. He could easily have busted a finger or two. How do you spin - "Hockey coach breaks players finger in rage at practice." When practically everthing is recorded these days and social media takes a story form 0-100 in hours there is no leeway. I wonder if this was his normal motivating method and the players decided they had enough.

In true WHL transparancy - The LEAGUE gives him 5 games sus. That's A LOT of investigation time.
And fans get nothing?
