Another perspective on Wings Top prospects.

Excerpt from intro:

"Red Wings NHL Prospect Pool Power Ranking: ___
***
"The Detroit Way

There may be other teams with slightly better prospects or more high-end prospects but there is no team that is even close to the prospects in the Detroit system whose top picks in the last five years were in the vicinity of 35th, 49th, 20th, 15th, and 19th. It is the Detroit way.

Detroit takes prospects that other have shied away from (for real or perceived issues), place them down on the farm, nurture them, cultivate them, teach them what it takes to become a successful NHLer and then call them for NHL duty when they are ready and slightly over-ripe. It works so well for Detroit that you would think that more NHL teams would try to emulate Detroit’s success.

Well, it appears some of Detroit management alumnae are doing just that. Steve Yzerman, the General Manager for Tampa and the NHL General Manager of the Year for 2014-15 and formerly Vice-President of Hockey Operations for Detroit, appears to be having success with his version of the Detroit way. ..."

In addition to Top 10 highlights the obvious U21 lads already on the roster, plus 5 honourable mentions along with the rest of the 2015 draft class.

As well, "E-Mac's Impact Prospects" are noted along with how the Red Wings stack up with the rest of the league with respect to their prospect pool.

Really solid article. I don't say that very often.

Don't believe everything you read.....from a forwards perspective...and... the way the game is played today by those highly top rated forwards who need every advantage they can get to generate points.

Along comes this kid named Athanasiou where there are no analytics in place that can describe the entertainment value his game provides. His athleticism on the ice is second to no one. As a 19 year old the kid put on a clinic at the prospects tourney on what the paying public should be viewing at a venue that is supposed to be considered as entertainment..... The way a player puts the puck in the net tells me more about that player than any write up.

wat?

Of course there's no analytic to measure entertainment value. No one is trying to measure entertainment value. They want to measure things relevant to winning.

How do you expect Ouellet to make the team this year?

Wings already have seven defenseman signed.

We already know Kindl has the press box spot locked up. No team is going to trade for him, and Kenny the hoarder won't waive him.
