Interesting note for the CBA nerds out there:
As per the CBA, this trade could have only happened if no other teams put in a claim when Arizona claimed Comrie back on October 1, or if those teams gave consent to this trade.

NHL CBA 13.29(b) said:
A Player who has been acquired by Waiver claim shall not be Traded to another Club until the termination of Playoffs of the season in which he was acquired unless he is first offered on the same terms to the Club(s) that entered a claim when Waivers were requested originally and the offer has been refused.

As Arizona had claimed Comrie for a waiver price of $67,500, he would've needed to have been offered to any other teams who originally put in a claim, if there were any, at that same price.

If this season is evidence of anything it's that Yzerman doesn't give a shit about any current or projected bottom line/pairing players.

Every few trades he hits a gem like Fabbri/JDLR, but this one ain't it lol.

This has nothing to do with the Wings. This is solely a GR move.

I'm guessing Howie's status of missing "at least a week" changed to definitely more than a week.

If it was just a week, Wings could have easily sent Pickard back on tuesday if need be. After monday, Wings don't play til Saturday.

Vili Saarijarvi doesn't score too often at the AHL/ECHL level considering he was scouted as a offensive defenseman in juniors/Finland.

Saarijarvi will probably never make the NHL level as a full time player.

This move clears a positional spot for Detroit and gives Arizona a warm defensive body until Saarijarvi hits free agency at which time he’ll probably sign back in Finland.

Young men. Both might still make it.

Thats not true at all, this guy needs waivers, thats why hes been with Arizona all year. He probably gets a legit shot at #1 with how Howard and Bernier have been.

He’s only been here a couple of months. Chayka grabbed him as insurance because Raanta hadn’t played for almost a year and we weren’t sure how long it would take to get the rust off.... if at all.

Comrie did go to Tucson for a conditioning stint and got in four games. Won all four, but had a lot of offensive support in front of him in that stretch.

Detroit currently sitting with 24/23 roster size at capfriendly, I guess some paper move of a waiver-excempt player might already have happened. And then Pickard on waivers? When Arizona claimed Comrie, some of us actually thought they were planning on trading one of Kuemper or Raanta, and using Comrie as a backup.

Pickard needs waivers too. So take your pick. Either or, they clear pretty easily. They aren't leaving Larsson by his lonesome in GR. One of the two are going down soon.
