What would CBJ want the add to be from Colorado in a trade like this:
Savard (50% retained) for Pateryn + _____?
I figure that Pateryn could be a short-term replacement for Columbus for the rest of the season, and from Colorado's perspective including Pateryn (and his $1.175m minors caphit) would allow the Avs to add Savard ($2.125m caphit) with only a $950k increase in cap.
If the Jackets are selling then they probably prefer to give the ice time to Andrew Peeke, our RHD prospect that looks like a soon-to-be top 4 guy. Pateryn is just there to keep Colorado under the cap, which I get is necessary.
Savard might do better in a tighter system, the Avs seem more freewheeling and I think a fast D would do better there. Then again if you're looking for a fast version of a Savard-bulldozer, that would be a pretty expensive player. That would be like prime E.J.
