If Bolland doesn't come back at all he might make 4 or hell even 5 mill a year(I seriously doubt it but maybe) but he wont get more than a year or two. Costing him many millions of dollars. I think it is in his best interest to come back this season and he is a fool if he doesn't unless he really, really is unable to.

I think we have learned our lesson.

In the end Bolland and Clarkson had minimal impact. I like Bolland but if he wants to walk let him, we cant keep repeating mistakes. The guy may never play again or never play at the same level he once did. Let some other GM take that chance. Nonnis had the right idea but Chicago outsmarted him.

The Leafs are probably better off without Clarkson and Bolland tied up, they don't need to be doubling down on mistakes.

Two of Toronto's most glaring weaknesses are a total lack of leadership and a serious void of players with any defensive acumen. If you think the Leafs are "probably better off without Bolland" then you dramatically misjudge the needs of this franchise.

You nailed it. We in fact, need Clarkson and Bolland......for the playoffs. They were brought in to add some heart, soul and in Bolland's case, defensive acumen. Their real value should become apparent this post-season.

My gut says he will be back for the game against the redwings on the 29th

All home games, 4 games...the key to Bolland is, if he comes back he is staying back(barring something crazy) but he wont be 'testing' it, his contract depends showing a full recovery.

So atleast if he comes back, we know he wont be coasting.

And what team in their right mind is going to trade for a player who may not play again this season? You're lamenting that an impossibility didn't occur.

Dave Nonis cannot predict the future. He could not have predicted that Bolland would get his ankle lacerated and only play 15 games for us. At the time when he was in this lineup the trade looked like an absolute steal. Far be it for Nonis to bring in a playoff warrior to fill our vacant #3C position.

well Anah did trade for a injured Robidas.

I can't stand reading pages and pages without any Bolland updates.

The latest is what?

I predict bolland goes back to Chicago in the offseason.

i dont see how they can afford him under the cap. kane and toews are going to be getting sizable raises amongst a few others. i dont see them liking bolland at $4 million+

there is a team out there that is going to lock bolland up just like we did with clarkson. i just hope it isnt the leafs.

I think Florida. Tallon will give him a stupid contract.

I would agree with saying Florida is the front runner at this point considering Tallon and Bolland are actually pretty close and Tallon thinks very highly of him as a player. If Toronto had more cap space and Bolland wasn't injured through the majority of the year I would likely put Toronto as the front runner but it just seems to be a situation where they're trying to put a square peg into a round hole at this point. That said, I hope when he does come back he's got his ankle 100% strengthened and ready to go so they can work something out or it leads to a deeper playoff run at the least.

Bolland: "You want to be cautious ... When we went on the Stanley Cup run, it's a long time. I'd rather be ready for the whole playoffs."

i was searching bolland's status on twitter and came across this quote by bolland LAST YEAR..looks like he was injured before the playoffs and had the mentality of getting ready just for the playoffs..i think thats whats going on this year.he will play when absolutely needed

That could be good or bad. With his kind of injury there is no way of telling what kind of player he'll be when he returns. His injury affects his skating which is the foundation of any player's game. Struggling to skate and then throw in the time it takes to readjust to the timing of a fast paced competitive game and reading plays on the ice and it's a toss up whether it'll be a good thing for him to just jump into the playoffs. My hope that is that he can at least get a few regular season games under his belt and see how that goes. I understand his position though - not just for the upcoming contract he's looking for, but because he doesn't want to be a liability to his team.

Need Clarkson and Bolland at the top of thier games......for the playoffs. As it is at the moment both are pretty much non-factors contribute nothing and remain huge question marks going forward. So it can be argued the Leaf's may be better off without them. I do hope both are ready for the play-offs but I am not feeling too confident about it.

I'm disappointed some day's with Bolland, holding out, blah blah.

Other days, like today, I am confident with the player and what to expect when he is back. IMO he will contribute to the team greatly in the playoffs(if we make it, have to cover the jinx); he won't come back into the lineup until he is up to par or confident in his ability at team practice. And that will be great for us when he is inserted and is noticed on the ice; obviously game speed may be an issue....but if he is holding out till 100%, for a guy who has dealt with recovery before, I don't see him talking long before he is given close to 2nd line minutes and pushing Naz to be better.

Optimism day. Get well Bolly, we need ya; and are eagerly awaiting the 'ready to go'

My guess - we don't see Bolland again in a Leaf uniform. Not unless the Leafs are in a locked in position in the playoffs (up by a few games, or down by a few games in a series).

Fact is he's a UFA. Why would he jeopardize his shot of a big pay day in the summer by coming back and struggling?

He risks losing a lot of money by coming back and not playing well.

I was really hoping he'd be back by now . It's going to take him some time to get into game shape and get back into it and the longer he is out the less time he has to prepare for the playoffs.

Are you suggesting a player may lie about an injury or milk an injury so as to not risk a potential increase in pay? That is the same as calling in sick when you are not! Players wouldn't do that, would they?????? :sarcasm:

Comments like the last few really make it hard to defend it.

I am confident he sees the ice before the playoffs and however long it is we play in the post season.

Not only does his future pay depend on not looking bad after recovery, but if he doesn't return all together; what team in there right mind would like to shoulder (or foot) anything longer than 1 year?

If he doesn't return, show of hands how many teams would only offer a camp invite? I understand a few lowly basement cap dwellers may table offers...

He WILL return for a few season games (guessing 4). Hoping the Leafs have something secured by then, and he can have a easier time settling in.
