New York Rangers forward Dan Carcillo was given a game misconduct for making contact with an official in the first period of Game 3 against the Montreal Canadiens. While teammate Derek Dorsett was fighting Canadiens forward Brandon Prust, Carcillo hit the arm of linesman Scott Driscoll while he was attempting to intervene.

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reported that game officials will review the incident post-game and determine its category. If any Category 40 rule is applied, Carcillo will be suspended. Dreger tweeted that there likely won't be word until Friday morning, but the sense is that Carcillo may be in for a long suspension. He says it could be 10 or 20 games according to rule 40.3 or 40.2.

Dreger added that if Carcillo receives 20 games, officials would have deemed that he intended to injure. Ten games is applied when there is no intent.

so if the Rangers managed to win the SCF, I guess that means carbomb most likely couldn't get his name on the cup?

Carcillo barely did anything. He tried getting away from the linesman, which players do all the time without penalty. Personally, I think the linesman is just being a baby about it. It doesn't help that Carcillo has a history of being an idiot though.

10-20 game suspension is just outrageous. Give him the 3 games and just move on from it - we don't need him anyway.

Agreed he should get 3 but 10 is nuts. Brassard should be back so he sits anyway

Deserves to be suspended for giving the ref an elbow to the face. No reason for that at all.

It definitely wasn't smart. It all stemmed from the missed blindside hit that Prust got away with. The Rangers lost their focus for about 10 minutes--particularly Dorsett and Carcillo. Just running around looking to get even. The charge against Carcillo did not seem to be extraordinary enough to penalize comparatively speaking to the rest of the game.

Anyway the officials are going to have to decide just what Carcillo's behavior with the linesman is worth. It looked to me like Carcillo was mainly intent on breaking loose than really on attacking the linesman. He might have said something and that might have some bearing on it as well.

Honestly of all the players this team can stand to lose right now, Carbomb is number 1. He was dumb to do that even if the ref was being a dong master. He should know better by now. Cy@!

well I wouldn't say that, but he's an important role player. Unfortunately I think he's a goner, looking at the replay he clearly intended to shove the ref. I don't think he wanted to injure him but the league will never let this slide. It's going to be a 10 game suspension IMO because of how the rule is laid out

Just stupid what he did last night, no call or not. He went against all that the Rangers have stood for this playoffs. They went after that cheap ******* and wasted a bunch of energy. They should have just went about their business and showed that "accidental on purpose" whining ****** what it's like to be down 3-0.

Thought it was incredibly overblown. YOu see this all the time with players, they are focusing on other things and wrestling away from the refs. He didn't hit him intentionally at all. It was incidental contact.

To suspend him for any games is laughable in my opinion, but 10-20 is pathetic, especially when you're seeing guys like Cooke end effective players' season and get 7.

I don't care about the "rules." It's embarrassing.

They completely dominated the first period. 14-4 in shots, 1-0 lead and without Tokarski standing on his head, it's like 2 or 3 nothing.

I was completely fine with Dors/Carc fighting Prust.

Don't know what more you could have asked for in that first period. They controlled it.

Pacioretty had 3 of the four montreal shots. So literally every player on their team, outside of 1 was completely dominated.

And if the ******* refs called the major on Prust, none of this would have happened. Also, the charging call was complete ********!

Doesn't change the reality that Carcillo has always been an idiot, but this is the first time we have seen it.

They lost focus and losing Carcillo upset all the lines. They may have dominated but at times there was none of the cohesion that has been their hallmark in these playoffs.

For example: Montreal "dominated" for stretches in game 2, did you ever feel worried they were going to score? I didn't, that's what the Rangers felt like last night for most of the game.

He deserves three. It was dumb by both him AND THE LINESMAN. I don't know what the linesman is doing there, but he was over aggressive, IMO.

He deserves three; he'll get 20. This is the Rangers and Carcillo we are talking about here, people.

Its unfortunate that Carcillo did something so stupid the moment a series really got emotionally charged. He had played really well for this team, but hes a bit of a time bomb.

I'd say its a good bet you'll never see him in a Rangers uniform again.
