People have no problems paying a young potential elite Dman $7mill after 3 seasons, but they think a proven elite Vezina goalie at $7mill is overpaid?

Goalies' worth are overvalued.

Rask 0 Cups
Lundqvist 0 Cups
Price 0 Cups
Rinne 0 Cups
Ward 1 Cup
Niemi 1 Cup
Quick 2 Cups
Crawford 2 Cups

The teams with great defence and an average goalie can win cups, I wonder what a team with great defence AND a great goalie can do...unfortunately Rask hasn't exactly had D like the Hawks, or the Kings for that matter.

We've seen it already.

Kings in 2012 and 2014 with Quick, whose a great goaltender.

Bruins in 2011 with Thomas, who was a great goaltender.

The last 6 cup champions have either been a great defensive team with a great goaltender, or the generational Chicago Blackhawks.

Exactly. This idea that you can build a contending team with a moderately talented goalie is absurd. There may be a few freak exceptions, but solid teams are built from the net out. It's the most important position on the team.

Man, the Bruins really pissed away their chance to be good for 10 years.

Seguin
Hamilton
Rask

Potential elite players in three positions. These are the guys to build around. Even if you believe Seguin had to go, they should've gotten another young good forward or even a defencemen to build around. If they trade Rask, the Bruins might as well trade everyone on the team. But, it will happen because players will start asking for trades again out of Boston.

Ovechkin doesn't have a cup, Weber doesn't have a cup, Karlsson doesn't have a cup etc.

There are many roads to winning a cup and I believe that great goalkeeping can be just as critical as any other way. Bruins fans above all ought to be aware of this.

Exactly.

And for any Bruins fans here who lived through the mid-90's and the revolving door of mediocre to bad goaltenders, should cherish the fact we have a true No.1 like Rask in his prime and signed long-term.

He may not have a cup but was two wins away from a championship, on a great defensive team.

Go ask the St. Louis Blues how building a great team around mediocre goaltending has worked for them the last 3-4 seasons.

One round and done. Every time.

Rask blew up in game six, but our players were too banged up to score goals that year. Our forwards let us down more so than Rask. Great goalie, if he is traded blow the whole ****ing thing up

Every goalie now plays exactly the same. This is not the mid 90's. The last thing a team to looks for is a goalie.

Scott Darling was 3-1 2.28 .936 in the playoffs.

While I agree somewhat with the trend towards bigger goaltenders and puck-blocking vs. puck-stopping is taking over the game, I'd still prefer to have a tried and true No.1.

Part of the reason the trade value of goaltenders has gone down now is there are so many good ones. Years ago many teams never had a true starter, now the league is full of them to the point where not having a No.1 is the exception rather than the rule.

Goalies are harder to predict and we'll find there careers are less of a straight line than they were years ago. Look at Dubnyk, from an afterthought with the Habs in 2014 to the point they sent him home during their playoff run as they didn't have any need for him. A year later he's a Vezina finalist and one a big time contract.

But the elites like Price, Lundqvist, Quick, Rinne, Rask and a couple other will endure and be top players now and for the foreseeable future.

But they'll always be an advantage to having a goalie who is a cut above the pack.

Scott played in 4 games and he was brutal in his 4th game.
