Dallas most likely to host the 2018 NHL Entry Draft

Well they've been all but neglected with the awarding of outdoor games. Haven't played one yet.

Draft would be cool.
I wonder if it has to do with next season being their 25th anniversary of playing in Dallas?

I assume it's the same reason Tampa Bay is hosting the All Star Game next year during their 25th anniversary.

Argh. Chicago was the 4th draft I've attended and I told myself that I'd only do another draft if it was in California/LV/Arizona. But Dallas would be tempting.

Anaheim has never hosted a draft or an ASG. Maybe one day?

wonder how many other NHL cities can say the same

Bring it to Edmonton :( Give Dallas the ASG instead

Ideally, you like to award draft cities to teams who are not going to make the playoffs. They are way more likely to keep their top pick vs the good teams.

So you are correct in hoping for EDM since starting in 2019, who knows if they keep their pick. Might want to make a move to go for it.

Chicago wasn't go to move their 2017 1st because they hosted the draft.

No point in STL or CAL asking to host 2018 since they dealt their top pick away already.

Edmonton make a complete mokery of the draft so much so that they changed the rules regarding the lottery.

They are the last team that should host it.

Why us specifically when PIT and QUE/COL who also got around the same number of #1 picks in their history. Don't make me reiterate this for the final time its the changes that were made because we got two back to back first picks that allowed us to continue to receive those picks if you guys stopped whining we would have never got Connor and he would be in Buffalo with Eichel being present in Arizona

Pretty sure I saw you on TV holding up a Hischier jersey.

Yup, that was me.

How do you find it? I imagine day 2 would be really boring after the 2nd round. A lot of googling on your phone.

Oddly, I almost find day 2 to be more interesting than day 1. The one bummer about being in the arena is that they don't air the commentary. So there is a bit of downtime between each pick especially for round 1. Round 2-7 is much more rapid fire.

Even as a draft nerd, once the 4th round rolls around I won't recognize most of the names. But I wouldn't recommend sitting through all 7 rounds of the draft.

Usually the Stanley Cup will be on display and the line is typically pretty long. So you can take a break from the draft and grab a picture, especially if you know your team doesn't have a pick that round.

The fun dynamic is that a good chunk of the players will be hanging around the arena too. Great time to get in a quick meet and greet, picture, or autograph with a a draftee or one of many Hall of Famers/All Stars who are on team staffs. There are much fewer fans attending the 2nd day, so it might be easier to approach certain guys.

When I went to get a bite to eat, I saw Devils 2nd rounder Jesper Boqvist and got a pic/autograph. In past years, I got to interact with Adam Larsson, Ryan Johansen, Mackenzie Blackwood, amongst others.

Also much easier to get a front row seat on the 2nd day. When I went in 2010, I could hear Brian Burke and George McPhee negotiate a pick for pick trade which resulted in the Capitals drafting Philip Grubauer. Nothing earth shattering, but still fun to see that happen ten feet in front of you.
