Agreed, no need to keep a $2m cushion.

But at the end of the day the cap piper will be collecting that $2m in performance bonuses next season or the following season.
The important point for us fanatics who like to keep track of such things is that the cap hit is 3.5, not 5.5, for the 2023-24 season. :)

It give the Stars some flexibility for next year. If the cap doesn't rise very much ? No problem just have the $2M extra caphit on the 2024-2025 seasons books when the Cap will 100% rise by more. Pavs gets paid either way but the team can decide when $2M of his $5.5M count on the cap.

Not a bad deal. I know he's getting old, but he's been close to PPG this year and past two years. Even if it costs the full 5.5mil that's a pretty good bargain for a guy that brings more than just points.
