He was 14th in D scoring production just last year - and top 60 for EVP (while being 149th in EV TOI/GP), so no, not just a PP specialist.
Majority of that came while being an offence only dman with zero defensive expectations on the oilers.

The fact that he’s getting scratched on a bubble team this year proves my point. In his prime, he was a 55-60p 4D. That has passed. His only value now is as a bottom pair, limited ice time guy who plays 1PP. Most teams have their QB though

It doesn't prove your point at all. You said he hasn't been anything more than a PP specialist in a decade. Last year was not a decade ago. You're moving goalposts now. His prime has obviously passed, and no one is disputing that.

I don't see the appear. Many teams are finding players who can do Barrie's job, better than Barrie.

Because he hasn’t been but he’s been especially bad as of late. He’s always been a soft, one dimensional defender who thrived on the PP but was mediocre at best elsewhere. Now he’s the washed version of that. I stand by what I said. He’s overrated and has been for some time.

I wonder if Dallas would be interested. They need a RHD and Benn is good friends with Barrie.

A poor attempt at flaming.
He’s not wrong, but that’s more a knock at Edmontons defensive structure than anything else. Nurse/Ekholm/Barrie would all be #2s based on the other players they deploy on the back end

Ah. So his production at evens was actually the result of the powerplay, last year was a decade ago, and this forum's penchant for ripping him is only its collective way of saying it like, like likes him.

The only reason anyone trades for him, is if they’re desperate for points generated from the backend. They won’t be getting more than a 5th round pick in return though. Maybe someone has holes they need to fill immediately, but then there’s the salary problem. It’s just a messy situation.

He's likely going to be free for the sake of making space for Stastney. His prorated cost isn't awful and he can still QB a PP, just not for us with Josi taking those minutes primarily.

A tale as old as time, one side of the relationship tells the other that they’re free to talk to other people meanwhile they’re getting bigger more reliable replacement D from somewhere else already.
Damn bro is that what she did to you??

He’s still a solid offensive d-man with some defensive warts. If he’s slotted appropriately, he can be very useful to a team.
Yes Edmonton can get him to pair with Bouchard. Would be dumb and dumber of defense

The only real situations where I could see a fit may be
- Washington (read in one of the posts that Nashville needs a LW, and the Caps could move dump for dump, sending Mantha back for Barrie; Carlson could still sort of hold it down for the Caps but Sandin hasn't been that prominent statistically on PP2)

- Dallas (the PP2 seems to have had a rotating door for defensemen, Lundkvist hasn't really panned out, and Harley/ Hanley might not have the same upside; if the cap fit works, Barrie could help the solid PP2 group, with Duchene/ Johnston/ Seguin/ Marchment up front)
Out of those, I hope Dallas takes a stab at getting him for a playoff run, since he is a pending UFA and could help them for the reasons stated above

Oh no, I can see Dubas taking him to fix the Penguins' PP.
With the fire power that the pens have that should come from within. The pens Powerplay being crap is maybe the biggest surprise to me this year, even more than Edmonton's start

Except for the part where he was top 60 in EVP for defensemen. He produced at a decent clip at evens. That's all I'm saying.
do you think that was because of his play or because of the high octane oilers last year. Guess some people could say chicken or egg sort of thing, but I feel like that was more of a product of the team play.
