.

Ovechkin-Forsberg-Jagr

Lidstrom-Pronger

Hard to argue with this.

If I was making a 2nd line I'd probably go with:

Shanahan/Kariya - Lindros - Bure

Leetch - Niedermeyer

Strictly talking players during my tenure as a fan...

At 5v5?

Selanne -- Lindros -- Jagr
Bourque -- Lidstrom

Jagr and Lindros are the best 5v5 players I have ever seen with my own two eyes. Selanne was godly at 5v5 when younger. Bourque and Lidstrom are the best two defensemen I ever watched play hockey.

Do you really believe a peak Selanne was better 5v5 than a peak Ovechkin? Or just that he would work better with those other players?

Holmstrom-Datsyuk-Zetterberg

Lidstrom-Rafalski

This is one of the best real life 5 man units I have witnessed for sure.

Peter Forsberg - Eric Lindros - Jaromir Jagr
Nicklas Lidstrom - Chris Pronger

I'd also like:

Paul Kariya - Steve Yzerman - Teemu Selanne
Ray Bourque - Scott Niedermayer

Alex Ovechkin - Sergei Federov - Pavel Bure
Al MacInnis - Brian Leetch

I thought about it for a while, and did consider which I thought would work best, and the fact I love Selanne and would love to see those three play together! (though Ovechkin is also a player I love watching)

but even without that their 3 year offensive 5v5 peak was not too dissimilar.

96-99 Selanne: 226gp, 102 EV goals (0.45 EVGPG), 94 EV assists (0.41 EVAPG), 196 EV points. (0.86 EVPPG)
07-10 Ovechkin: 233gp, 116 EV goals (0.50 EVGPG), 95 EV assists (0.41 EVAPG), 211 EV points. (0.91 EVPPG)

Then when you do a crude adjustment for scoring era (going off their overall stats and what they would be adjusted up to percentage wise over that timespan):

Selanne: ~+11%
Ovechkin: ~+6.6%

0.86*1.11= 0.95
0.91*1.066= 0.97

Though frankly Ovechkin being a natural LW does mean he has a better argument for being there! But could not resist having Selanne, Lindros and Jagr together! Though Ovechkin there would be insanely awesome as well.

Shanahan - Lindros - Iginla

Weber - Pronger

Maybe not the most skill but damn they could grind you down.
