The media continually runs the bs storylines as to why people leave and somehow fans buy it.

I know how corporate-speak works so I am a little less willing to believe the words of management. This includes why Dubas was fired. I get the feeling Dubas knew it was time to move one of the core and some refused to allow that to happen. Sure there was the power struggle but why was this struggle there in the first place?

The truth is, as much as I want it to happen, I my heart I know this franchise will not win a Cup in my lifetime. You watch it over 40 years, many have watched it longer and you just see the same patterns, the same moving of chairs on the Titanic and every time they sell you a message similar to what shareholders are told by a CEO.

Hayes created the perfect motto for this team: "I will believe it when I see it". I am going to borrow that and repeat it often.

I hear you man but quite frankly IMO dubas ruined the best chance Leafs have had to win the cup.

Now that we have a new GM and a new coach with "hockey philosophy that works" it is more conceivable now that Leafs will have a better shot of winning the cup at least for the next 3 to 4 years. And then after that its probably rebuild route again.

But realistically speaking we have to wait till marner and tavares contracts are off the books and that will only happen after the end of next season and then we can really build a team that envision's the GM and Coach's vision in terms of "character, accountability, responsibility, pride, hardwork, competitiveness, heart and on ice execution"

Matthews and Nylander played quite heavy this playoffs (Matthews has always done that especially when playing away from marner); and with addition of youngsters like Knies, McMann, Holmberg, Minten, Cowen I think our forward core is set. We just need to rework our D-core a bit and need to find a goalie.

We are moving in the right direction IMO whether that yeilds the cup or not is to be seen; but at least we are taking steps in the right direction!

Praised himself as a "great communicator", while struggling to answer some pretty basic softball questions?

Lovely start.

I have seen brilliant people (engineers, scientists, IT, etc...) not able to communicate at a basic level so that normies could understand them but when they talk to their peers/employees in the same field (in this analogy hockey coach talking to hockey players) it works and the final results are quite extraordinary.

And I have seen "smooth talkers/bullshitters" talk a solid talk but their IQ or aptitude to understand even the basic technical thing is non-existent. These are usually the marketing people....

Just saying..... ;)

Thanks again for transcribing man. The most important part for me was:

"On what a Craig Berube team looks like, and how they play hockey - competitive. Don't want to get outworked, ever. All about the team, for me. Everybody is important and everyone has to be used. Everyone has a job and a role. That's a real important aspect. Want to play a north game, and play a heavy team. Not always about running guys through the boards and fighting, as the game has changed. But have to be strong on the puck and win puck battles, and playing as fast as we can, while playing with structure in all 3 zones."

Now these are words I am really excited about. Lets see these words put into action!!!
16, 34, 88 are like......

I'm not really sure what you're talking about.

We can't be worse. How can we be worse than the 1st round choker Leafs?

Miss the playoffs? What's the difference at this point.

And Keefe. Let me say this about that guy. I love to throw the F bomb around here and there because language is powerful, especially in managerial role, but when every word out of your mouth is a motivational f-bomb the players are going to tune it out.

Hey, I want the cup in my lifetime, let's hope that Berube and whatever else happens makes a difference.
In the meantime we (me) should probably try and enjoy the beautiful weather and not even think about the Leafs until the leaves start falling.
Again with the how can we be worse than a 1st round exit? Not getting in the door and finishing 32nd during the regular season, wishing we were as good as top team's AHL team. It's happened before.

Im all for replacing Keefer....his time was over here. What happened to Vancouver last night? Was the coach too soft? Did the players play around the perimeter too much? Did they not care enough?

I mean if those same complaints are justified to the leafs.....what about all the other teams that have failed this year. ? Do they somehow get a pass because they won a playoff round and all of a sudden that is a sign of success? All forgiven?

Marner is who he is.....a 90- 100 pt man who has struggled in playoffs like alot of other players. Can we use him as a asset to fill out our roster better? Sure....if he waives .

And why is it that we suck? We have been a constantly a 100 pt team. Enjoy it. One day we will be back to struggling to make playoffs and we will all be talking about how great Mathews and the others were to watch back in the day.

Every team suck that dont win the cup I guess because thats all that really matters. Avs and the Bruins suck too I guess....blow them up. Bruins had a top team for a decade and a half.....have one cup to show for it. They must really suck. :)
3rd string goalie and their top playoff leader out....

Pelley seems like the biggest weasel possible. Can't believe this is ownerships "guy". Well actually I guess I can because theyre awful at running this org.

Two companies that compete against each other. Generally are not well liked by Canadians and are highly subsidized by the tax payer via grants for infrastructure and national security etc go in together to run a hockey team. They are also partially owned by a guy that a long time owner of the team hated and did not want to run the Leafs.

It's mind boggling.

He’s from Toronto but in his press conference…not sure if anyone caught it…one of the members of the press asked him about growing up in Toronto, watching them etc…and he didn’t really answer it but side stepped it and it became really clear that not only is he not a leafs fan he’s not a sports fan. It’s rare that someone can grow up in Toronto and not be even a mild leafs fan unless you have allegiance to another team but it was clear there is no emotional investment for him. Maybe that will change but I would be surprised if he even knows the rules of the sport.

Also not to judge a book by its cover but seeing him stand in between Treliving and Berube solidified that opinion.

Lieweke was American and not a leafs fan but you really felt when he came in and when he spoke that he was personally invested in the success of the clubs.

Its crazy more fans don't care about this. If youre looking for a model of success, the Leafs set up is literally the last thing you want.

His first mistake would be to think Leafs fans are "normies".

How many of those engineers and scientists and IT people would praise themselves for their communication skills lmao?

Tim was a highly paid aggressive top notch executive. The kind that Americans usually poach from Canada.

Our best go South and abroad. The brain drain around here is significant.

They are just throw shit at the wall and seeing what sticks. Its a huge organization issue and isnt getting addressed. I think even Tim L eluded to the issues with ownership on his way out.

Team is gonna be playing a heavy game next year. Robertson, Kampf and Liljegren are gone.
Berube won a Cup with one of the least penalized teams in recent memory. The Blues' roster that year was anything but rough and tumble.

Why do we care about other teams again?

I dont ....but if the whine fest compaints are good enough for the leafs then why are they not good enough for other teams?

Injuries ? We missed Nylander, Mathews and Woll......no one here gives us a pass for that. Why give it too Vancouver?

I dont quite understad this perimeter narrative? How did Nylander lead the league a few yrs ago in dirty area goals? did Keefer tell Knies...Bert....and all our "tough guys" to play the perimeter?
We got tougher, supposedly....we got bigger defensively...and slower....and how did that work out?

Im not worried....I just dont get excited about a HC who alot of here think will make players accountable and tougher. Again the narrative is we are soft from this perimeter style. OMG Keefer was preaching it all the time that we need to get in front of the net. Did Berube forget how to make players accountable the years they failed in the playoffs?

How about we deal with getting a playoff goalie? Or some defenceman that are not past their prime and that actually have a high hockey IQ. Big slow defenceman that bounce pucks off the board as their lead pass are dime a dozen.

Im all for replacing Keefer....his time was over here. What happened to Vancouver last night? Was the coach too soft? Did the players play around the perimeter too much? Did they not care enough?

No, "we" won't, we'll be talking about what playoff failures they were if this doesn't change.

Could Berube coach them to win a round? maybe, but coaches are not miracle workers and they need a good roster to win. I don't think he can make the "core 4" to be more than they are.

Fans put the blame all on Keefer. Now the new narrative is Berube will make players accountable and tougher because he was a fighter and there was a youtube clip on one of his speeches.

Better get a goalie to ride on his coattails.....as that is the only success he ever had coaching.

And lets see what Tre does in free agency .....doesnt have a great track record in hiring coaches or signing players to great contracts. Hopefully he can fill in the pieces as we do have some cap space.

I dont get it....again who cares about the other teams. I only care about the leafs but for arguments sake, every team that gets knocked out has fans who complain about something...go take a look. Some canuck fans are blaming the 3rd string goalie.

Yeah I was there for both of them. I remember when Carter hit the HR and there were thousands of us outside I think what was then HMV? The big screen outside had the game on.

Anyways when Carter hit it, I swear I was the first person with their arms in the air celebrating. I remember the crowd was silent as it was flying but I just assumed by the trajectory and camera angle that the ball was gone. Of course a couple of seconds later Toronto erupts.

The memories I have from those two wins will never leave me. Guys sitting on the top of lamp posts downtown, how they got up there and didn't fall is unknown to me. There were also many people on the roofs of the stores, surely drinking booze, legs hanging over the rooftops. Guys climbed on top of buses.

The wave of faces one after another, the high fives the hugging and kissing from strangers, I swear some of the faces are still etched in my mind.

Now a Cup would somehow dwarf these crowds and there were more than a million in back to back years in the 90s.
I remember people offering beer to the RCMP officers on their horses. They were politely declining the offers but letting everyone enjoy their beers without hassles. That's one thing I really like about Toronto, we can have a party like that to celebrate without burning down the city as happens in most other places. I don't even remember if anyone got arrested that night ...

The media availability was pretty much what I thought it would be.

We'll see how it goes as we get towards the draft/free agency.
