I like Fischer, he didnt look out of place in the AHL and was reasonably good in his limited NHL time, but I cant bring myself to vote for him here. I am really cautious about limited NHL samples and prefer potential in these prospect polls, so I am going with Joseph. Anyone remember Bill Thomas in - I think - the 06 season? He looked reasonably good in limited NHL time but then...he was out of the league pretty quickly. I know an undrafted player can't really be compared to a second round pick but as I said, I'm really cautious about limited sample sizes in the NHL.

edit: I think Thomas was during the "Yanic! at the disco!" season. Now if I only could remember what year that was, the seasons after the 04/05 Lockout kinda blur into one very long, very disappointing season for me.

Not really, no. Not unless you were equally impressed by Rundblad and Gormley's AHL numbers.

.

Yes actually. If you're looking for a single predictor of NHL success (excluding recently developed stats) nothing is better than scoring rate (higher levels of competition bring more accuracy).

And why would I have to be equally impressed by Gormley and Rundblad? You cherry picked a couple busts but you didn't notice that their scoring as AHL rookies didn't compare to Wood.

Rundblad 0.53 pts/gm (while offering no defense)

Gormley 0.43 pts/gm

Wood 0.63 pts/gm

Rundblad was coming off 50 pts in 55 games in the SHL, half his rookie year was spent with Ottawa in the show. His first full AHL season he outscored Wood with .78. He was the better offensive prospect in every single way. Gormley was the better defensive player in his rookie year while still putting up respectable numbers and outscored Wood the following year. They're more than reasonable comparisons. I don't think you're acknowledging the work Wood needs to put in - he was -23 on a team where Jared Tinordi was only -6. He's a bit of a one dimensional specialist with his shot at the moment.

Ultimately, nobody is implying that Wood is a bust or trending that way, only that he's not a slam dunk. I thought that was pretty obvious. Wood's scoring rate isn't exceptional to the point where you should be prematurely dancing about him. Wood had 28 points in the first 25 games, but only 15 in the following 43 games. He completely faded. At least acknowledge the inconsistency.

I feel like that one highlight of him dancing through guys has completely warped the perception of a nice prospect to have but one that still has a long ways to go.

This is pretty on point. One thing that I think we can all agree on is that trading Boedker away for Wood and Bleackley (who ended up being the 53rd overall compensation pick that was used to acquire 16th overall from Detroit which got us Jakob Chychrun) was great move then, and in hindsight. Chychrun has been an absolute stud and Wood has the potential to be a big bodied offensive right handed defenseman
