For sure, could in the question make it very easy to say yes.

They would have been in the mix (finland, sweden, usa, russia, Ontario) for the Gold and have about at least the same chance than the heavy injuried Sweden.

Considering the vast majority of Team Canada is from Ontario, could they have won the tournament using only Ontario players?

Well?

Maybe but a lot harder. Right off the bat top two centers are gone. That's significant.

Like seriously, who's the only vital non-Ontario player on team Canada? Price, Canada's starting goaltender?

non Ontario guys like St.Louis, Loungo, Marleau were non factors, imo

Team Canada (ontario version only) could still win without those guys. Most of them were non-factors anyways.

Yeah I think so:

Stamkos, Tavares, Thornton, Giroux, Perry, Hall, Carter, Nash, Duchene, Seguin, Neal, Spezza, Staal, O'Reilly, Richards, Couture, Skinner, Kadri, Simmonds, Williams

Doughty, Pietrangelo, Subban, Girardi, M. Staal, Giordano, Boyle

Smith, Mason

The goaltending is a little rough...

lol.. you smoking brah?

Luongo, Price, Bouwmeester, Keith, Hamuis, Vlasic, Weber, Benn, Bergeron, Crosby, Getzlaf, Kunitz, Marleau, Sharp, St. Louis, and Toews are all non Ontario born players.

Ontario could put together a very good team but I'd rather have the players not from Ontario than the players from there. Top two goalies, 5/8 defense, and Toews and Crosby.. big losses.

Yes, obv the starting goalie, top d pair and top 3 centers were non-factors.

To answer the question, yes, they could compete for gold.

I would go far as to say that team Canada (ontario)'s line up is better than Sweden and the USA.

Missing Sedin, Zetterberg and Backstrom for the gold medal, or in general ?

Ontario would be a hockey puissance competing for gold as a country for sure, not even a question there to me.

This line-up >>>Sweden, Russia, USA, Finland

Think about it, this lineup is more well rounded than any of those teams.

I think for sure would have the forwards and d but their goaltending would be far below the top countries.

If Smith can carry the Yotes to the playoffs, then he can certainly lead Team Canada to a gold medal. Hater...

Your analogy sucks and Phoenix's system is a big factor, Ilya Bryzgalov carried them to the playoffs to. Team Canada rules though.

He's not a hater, it's true. Smith isn't nearly as good as guys like Rask, Quick, Lundqvist, etc.

He's not as good but the difference among NHL goaltenders in the Olympics is greatly, greatly overrated. There's lot of goalies that play great stretches of hockey and the difference between Smith and Quick over a 5-6 game stretch is not that great. People were talking like Canada was going in with AHL goalies for a while. Over 82 games and 20+ games in a Stanley Cup run then a better goalie can make a bigger difference but every goalie in that tournament has great games and bad games. Lundqvist let in 3 goals against Latvia and Rask let in 4 against Austria. Yeah, there's a slightly better chance that Rask or Lundqvist will steal a game or make some key saves but it's not as predictable as people act.

Does the rest of Canada get to form a team? Because that team would be much better than the Ontario team.
