Could Gordon Bombay have made it in Adam Banks' era?

Who would be better?

We all know that Gordon Bombay was a child prodigy, putting up massive numbers in house peewee (even though his playoff performance left a little to be desired). We also know that being away from hockey significantly reduced the wear and tear on his body, enabling him to beat up on minor league competition even at his advanced age.

But when it all comes down to brass tacks, would Gordon Bombay still have been "Gordon Bombay" in the era of younger, hungrier stars like Adam Banks, a player who was the best on a high-ranking D1 team in only his freshman year?

In before the kids who think they know anything about Gordie because they saw some grainy YouTube clips. This is Bombay and it's not remotely close. If he played in the soft era that Banksy played in he would have never suffered that knee injury and he'd probably still be in the show in his 50's. As far as I know, Banks never made it out of high school hockey.

Mods, close this embarrassing thread.
