A couple guys I know said that the shot produced a localized burning sensation and discomfort that sucked for the first 24 hours, but after that they felt like new men.

Never had one myself. Plus, YMMV.

I've had multiple shots for a shoulder injury. The shot itself is actually a series of injections, not just one. The area burns for an hour or so and afterwards, you feel great. The problem is that the positive feeling is replaced a day or two later with the feeling that you were hit with a sledgehammer where they did the injections.

The other thing to consider is where they place the shot. If you're having it directly into a joint, multiple cortisone shots can cause damage to that joint over time. If it's just a one time thing, then no worries.

Ok here is my story. I went to my primary care doctor for a diagnosis and they said i had tendonitis. They referred me to a place they were affiliated with which was a little further than a wanted to travel cause it was hard to turn wheel when i drove. I asked my primary cared place if i could go some place closer which they replied to me well we are affliliated with them and want you to go there but if you want to go to another place you can.

So i decided to look for a place closer and found one to the town next to me. I then called my primary care and told them i wanted to go there.I then received the run around from my pri care office saying we need the date and time of my visit to them so i called the place I wanted to go to and tried getting that info but they said the needed a reference number from my primary care. I was getting a hard time from my pri care place because they wanted me to go to their affiliated place which I could go to this past friday. I wanted to go sooner to the place i wanted to go to but i was told that wouldn't happen to this week so i went with my pri care appointment on friday.

Could it be possible the affliliated place heard about this and did not give me the actual shot I was suppose to be given and didn't?

Sorry for rambling on and not reading this if it doesnt make sense before posting it as my arm is so sore to do so.

ur thoughts?

Sorry, my reply was more suited for the general OT thread.

This thread just came out of nowhere, and the question seemed so strange and out of the blue that it seemed like a joke. Still kinda does to me.
oh well. Not my issue.

Nah, I think Chuck's response is right.

So you're not sure if you felt a needle entering your body, and you're not sure if you feel the effects of a steroidal hormone entering your body.

Worse, you think there's a conspiracy between two doctors offices because you didn't follow their recommendation?

Here's my recommendation; if you are coming to a hockey board for medical advice, I'd rethink the whole process, listen to my doctor, and call them and ask these questions. Me, I like my joints and my ability to have a decent range to motion and would avoid ****ing around with it.

Since I do not think I have ever had one and for those of you who had one, do would i notice the slightest of difference if I had one? Plz let meknow.

thx

For tendonitis, you may feel a touch better but to be honest, the only difference it will make is on your imaging studies.

My honest advice is to do some independent research on doctors who specialize in your issue and go from there. So you have to travel a bit further for treatment. All of the hassle will be worth it when you find a doctor who treats the injury the way it needs to be treated.

As far as pain, they hurt like hell and even more so when you are allergic to the numbing agent.

I work for a foot surgeon. One of the best. You might have discomfort after being in the office, but it will subside.

If you need more info, PM me. He does injections daily, it really isnt all that dramatic. the needle isnt that big, I've seen it.

edit: Oh, its your shoulder. same rules apply though.

No. you needed a referral for your insurance, I'm betting. they wanted you to go there because the billing system, et al is symbiotic and isnt a pain in the toosh.

People: take the time to call your primary care and GET the referral, otherwise you get a bill and call me an act grouchy. It isnt my fault. Its a simply phone call and a number.

**Also: get some BioFreeze. pm me if you cant find it. It will cure what ails you.

If you went to a reputable clinic the answer is no, it's not possible unless someone made a tremendous mistake, which is also highly unlikely. If you were prescribed a Cortisone injection then you almost certainly received one.

The affiliation is nothing more than keeping the business within the corporate house, so to speak. Primary care docs and specialists within the same system can easily exchange medical records between themselves. They find this preferential for obvious reasons. When you go outside the affiliation then paperwork, as opposed to digital information, has to get transferred between your doc and the clinic which takes time and resources. It's something they'd prefer to not do.

The referral -- as was mentioned earlier -- is for insurance purposes.
