So presumably you draft McDavid.
What do you do next?

Go with:

McDavid
Turris
Zibanejad
Lazar

or

Do you move Turris or Zibanejad and other piece(s) for that elusive top pairing defenceman?

What would you do?

Draft McDavid, have a wealth of talent at C, win games, profit.

This isn't brain surgery. If you're forced to move a guy eventually, you do it then. Make a Jordan Staal kind of trade when you have to. Enjoy the depth when you have it, unless something falls in your lap that you can't say no to.

Turris is an ideal 2nd line centre and Zibanejad might be that perfect 3rd line/tweener centre.

If you magically made a superstar #1 centre appear, then it really becomes about the d-men.

Move Lazar to the wing and have Zibanejad feast on weak competition

I give eugene a big kiss for hiring his buddy to run the team into the ground perfectly. Great vision and execution lol

Quite simple, draft McDavid, play those centers you mentioned first year(just to make sure McDavid isn't a bust) then most likely trade Turris/Zibanejad for top flight defender or winger.

McDavid
Turris
Zibanejad
Pageau

move Lazar to wing. Make a trade for a good #2 D, win all the stanley cups.

Puempel McDavid Lazar
Mac Turris Stone
Hoffman Zib Ryan
Condra Pageau Robinson

Play those first 3 lines in any order in any game.
Its kind of ridiculous what 1 real elite center could do for this team.

I doubt McDavid would be a first line center his first season. It would probably be a scenario where the top 3 lines are rolled with a 1A, 1B, 1C scenario. Give Turris or Zibby the hardest matchups (depending how well those two lines finish up the current season).

Keep all of our core guys if possible....try out a few guys on the wing for an extended period of time (Pageau, Zibby, Lazar). If none of them look like they would develop into strong wingers, and we really have too many NHL caliber centers, then we can think of making a trade (probably Pageau, Smith, Prince). If McJesus is as good as advertised, we can also dangle the 2016 first round pick for a top 4 D.

Edit: We have to remember, McDavid might put up Crosby-esque numbers in the NHL, but it won't be for a while. He does not have the same body Crosby did coming out of junior. Not at all. McDavid is seriously under-developed physically at the moment (although that might change a bit by September). I don't expect a huge NHL impact from him next season.

It would be awesome if the Sens won the lottery if they miss the playoffs.

I doubt it happens though.

Adding McDavid doesn't magically solve our lack of talent though. Still can't afford to give away Turris or Zibby in a trade.

^^^this is looking pretty sweet. Turris is only 25 and could def be part of a package for an interesting dman. No idea who that could be though. If Zibby can be consistent in his current play, that's a player I think you have to try and give more than 3 line minutes

wild to think about either way.

What? Of course he would.

Ryan - McDavid - Lazar
MacArthur - Turris - Stone
Hoffman - Zibanejad - Chiasson
Puempel - Paul - Prince

In what way does that lineup lack talent? We're a McDavid and a top 4 D away from contending.

The PPP line is completely unproven and may never become full time NHLers...still unknowns. Lazar will never be a first line talent (his skill set is 3rd line material on a contender), Chiasson is 2nd/3rd line tweener on a contender, Hoffman and Stone don't necessarily crack the top 6 on a contender.

I love our guys, but we have to be realistic here.
