Has it ever been officially confirmed the draft will be 7 rounds. I think that is just a reporting error on TSN's part as I have never seen that number anywhere else.

Peter James Bond said:DOES THIS MEAN: all 30 balls are selected, and their order determines positions 1-30?!? That can't be. (?)
Seachd said:Yes.
Peter James Bond said:So, if your team missed the playoffs the past 3 years and has 3 balls, they could still end up drafting 30th overall??
How is that a fair system?
Vlad The Impaler said:It's already too late for a fair system, since each team should have had only one ball if fairness was the goal...
This system gives certain teams more chances and that's already more than those teams deserve. If they are unlucky, tough ****. I will personally rejoice as I don't think anybody deserves the extra balls.
The NHL isn't really reporting it. They're just using the same CP story that everyone else is. Unless someone like McKenzie can clarify it, we might have to wait until Friday to find out.The Great One said:Espn and NHL are reporting that the draft will be 9 rounds. If you don't beleive me I'm gonna give you some links.

Teams like Detroit and Ottawa have good systems despite lower picks... Montreal has probably the 3rd best... Edmontonmust be top 5... how do you really believe other teams don't deserve extra balls? Do you really want the NHL to forever have Detroit, Colorado and New Jersey as the three best with Pittsburgh, Chicago and Florida the bottom 3?
It's a change; certain teams had their moment in the sun, the pendulum is swinging and that's how the business is, like it or not. Why did Tampa and Calgary make the finals? Because they're young teams that are becoming the new dynasties. Sorry, that's how it goes. Philadelphia, New Jersey and Toronto are at the end of their reigns, just look at the rosters. They're winding down, you wanna give them the top 5 picks and have them rebuild right away into what they ALWAYS have been?
Consider it socialism.
Mr. Lack said:Something I read this morning actually said 8 rounds. I'll look for a link.
nhl.com said:This draft is expected to be an abbreviated version with a bit of ceremony for the first rounders, but then a quick rattling of names over the next eight rounds
espn.com said:Clubs will draft from 1 to 30 in the order the balls are picked. The first-round order will be reversed for the second round and flip on an alternating basis through the nine rounds
Douggy said:If they're going to fix it, I really hope that he goes to L.A. and not N.Y.
Cyclops II said:It is absolute stupidity not to televise the lottery. One has to assume it WILL be fixed as that is the only reason to do it behind closed doors. Who is going to believe it was completely legitimate if the Rangers get Crosby?
