They must have plans for him to come over. Maybe starts in the Ahl. Can’t see any other reason to sign now if he was going to stay in SwedenOk then.
Keeping him in Sweden or bringing him over?
Anyone got any word on this?

Another season in the Allsvenskan (2nd tier pro) wouldn't be the worst thing for him. It'll let him gain confidence in a league he's already familiar with while scoring regularly and further refining the offensive skills that made him a 1st round pick. There's not really a wrong answer here but from the Avs perspective they probably want to get a good read of him prior to the 2022 offseason when they'll have to make a lot of key decisions pertaining to the 2nd line especially. If Olausson has a good season they might consider him to be the heir apparent to Burakovsky for example. If they signed him they aren't gonna let him stay in the swedish 2nd tier leauge that's for sure. Either he comes over and dips his toe in the AHL or he is moved to the 1st tier in Sweden, neither of which is a bad option honestly.

There's a lot of logic in doing that, and it's what the Red Wings used to do with Franzen, Kronwall, etc. Once those guys got to the NHL they were already familiar with each other and the systems and were ready to roll as impact players. He's very comparable to Bura.
It wouldn't be surprised Newhook plays more games in the AHL. Pair with Kaut and OO. There is little reason to stay in SWE and play in Tier 2. AVs can form a future 2nd line if they play together before joining the team.

The problem the Avs have right now is the lack of a 2nd line forward.
Given how Sakic said that he doesn't want to put to much pressure on the young guys and that he wants to insulate them a bit I'm sure he'd love to get a 2LW to insulate Newhook from needing to take too much responsibility too soon.
I doubt we see him in the AHL much but a short stint to start the year could be good for him.
Problem is that the Avs are 100% counting on a prospect taking either the 2LW role or at the very least a 3rd line wing role (in which case Compher or Nichuskin would be at 2LW to start with).
Newhook is a natural C. BC started on LW and Boldy was the C. Both struggled and after switching their roles, excelled in the 2nd half of their Freshman year. He never returned to LW. Sheltering on a quasi 3C/4C is a possibility for a few games, I expect he stays in the AHL for more seasoning and would be an Injury callup.
AVs are conservative with their prospects and don't normally have 2+ rookies on the team, especially if they want to remain competitive. Byram is a lock and would be either Newhook/Kaut/Bowers as the other options.

Yeah I buy that, but again, Avs don't really have anyone else who can play 2LW and have the offensive potential Newhook does. If he starts in the AHL our bottom 9 is going to look ridiculously weak.
