I suppose the fact that it's Nemeth straight up reduces the chances of a package deal for Bernier as well, which would have been the logical move if Sakic wanted both Bernier and Nemeth.

I'm guessing the price to get both was at least a 2nd, and Joe balked.

I had this thought too, but there was the earlier examples of back to back deals with the Islanders in the off season, the Burroughs/Greer deal followed by the Toews deal.

Fine by me.

A 4th round pick a year from now is a pretty low price.

Nemeth is a fine stay at home defenceman capable of playing 17 a night with the Avs of need be. When the Avs are healthy he’ll get less than that.

I liked Nemeth when he was in Colorado. I haven’t watched Detroit much, but only being a -1 on an awful hockey team isn’t bad.

Excellent. Like the trade a lot more after seeing that. Detroit fans have been adamant for months that Nemeth would get at least a 3rd, and more if there was 50% retention. Solid value there.
