It was a puzzling trade for sure. An uptempo team which features defensemen pinching gets a guy who has terrible footspeed and constantly misreads plays.

Complain about Franson's speed, positioning, lack of physicality, bad decision-making, .... but you can't complain about his passing - he might have been the only one out there making a decent advancing pass. Lotta' back and forth between the D, lotta' F back to the D, but advancing toward them - not so much.

As to the OPs assertion - he is our worst Dman, without question (well, except Volch), but we have an exceptional D that mostly could skate 2nd pair anywhere in the league. He is clearly not the weakest player we skate.
