Plus if you are a top coach, you are typically compensated very well. The top handful of coaches are paid more than most, if not all, NHL Assistant coaches. Not many of the top CHL coaches transition into NHL Head Coaches. They typically need to take an AHL Head Coach gig or an NHL Assistant Coach gig and work their way into an NHL bench. Maybe one coach every few years makes the direct jump without previous NHL experience?And just really like where they are, what they are doing.
