Good thing the expansion draft doesn't happen until the end of the season, there's a high probability that the AHL won't be playing. They don't have national TV contracts, so they can't make money without a live audience.

Seattle doesn't start until next year in the NHL. Expansion draft/entry draft is some time next summer Their AHL team is unknown when it'll start.

Yeah, I meant next season. I'm a Wings fan so the season's been long over, lol.

They are scheduled to start in 2021 assuming that the AHL resumes playing. (That's what the expansion agreement states....)

Is there an NHL or AHL team in any place as hot or hotter than Palm Springs? I'm just curious. I'm not actually one of those who likes to pretend that ice can't be produced at an indoor rink in a warm climate.

Phoenix and Vegas may be marginally hotter. The technology to keep NHL-quality ice solid in winter climates associated with the southwest does exist, although the quality isn’t on par with what you’ll find in, say, Winnipeg. But it passes.

Based on what I've looked at, I think Palm Springs may have both Vegas and Phoenix beat in terms of temperatures. It is a very hot place, for those who've never been.

Any difference is negligible, and the point of my post is that technology exists to make hockey ops possible. Keep in mind, we’re not talking peak summer temps, but October to mid-Spring.

here's the thread for Palm Springs
When there are expansion teams(like Seattle 2021),the new team should be able to run an independent AHL for 2 seasons prior just to build up the prospect pool. This would help out the NHL team down the road when Vets retire and the team has a replacement instead of some gaping hole in the line up. Its not like the ol' days when players(1st rounder especially) were drafted at 20 and were ready

Independents haven't been allowed in the AHL in almost 3 decades.....that's not Seattle's model, nor was it Vegas's model when they joined

During hockey season (normally) the main portion of the calendar weather is really mild, dey with much milder to cooler evenings. Not cold but pretty nice
Any decent effort should produce pretty good ice

until playoff time. The. It starts ramping up

Saw an article linked to Kraken and now on the Kraken site:
Central to the Mission

TL/DR - scrapping the original areana location in downtown Palm Springs next to casino and now working on new arena closer to Palm Desert. New arena plan will not open until late 2022. No word on 2021 affiliation

Her saying "Krakens" repeatedly at the beginning drove me up the wall, even though it was the right context

I have to say though, putting an AHL team so close to another NHL market seems weird,
Why does it seem weird, I mean the Devils are just as close to the Isles and Rangers.

But seriously, it's not much different than Edmonton having their AHL club in Bakersfield and Calgary having theirs in Stockton.

Seems like there will be an announced about the AHL team on November 5th.

Leiweke supposedly said that we're close to a name.
Looking at that short video there's fire everywhere, they talk about it getting hot and there's a bird sound near the end.

So my guess it's going to be Firebirds.
