GM Dryden Lewis doesn't like making trades. Been burned too many times and often thinks others over value their players when they talk trade with him and then rollover like a dead dog with others. But every once in awhile a deal comes along where you have to just say ok and take a chance. Coming to Chicago is Scott Gomez and making its way to Calgary is a bag of cash and a 5th round pick.

"its one of those decisions that could either make a season or break my career. We bring in a leader and playmaker and show other teams in our division and conference that we mean business. We had the cap space and have improved our team without losing a roster player. That's the important part. The gamble is that if we don't make the playoffs then we don't take in the extra revenue that the playoffs bring. Next year we have a player making a high salary on the downside of his career but we will deal with next year when it comes. Right now we have to play for 2011-12. That is what matters. Kershaws a stand up guy and needed some help and it was a good fit for both teams. We had feelers out with other teams and it would have cost us a high pick or highly touted prospects and we just didn't like that route. But who knows we are still fishing for a top 6 FWD and you never know what might happen."

Only time will tell if this was a move that will pay off in the future.
