Stalock appears to have been injured last night after being hit by Cizikas and Petr Mrazek was already out nursing an injury but was practicing today. Blackhawks already called up Arvid Soderblom last week and the only other prospect goalie they had with an NHL deal was Jaxson Stauber who is also injured. Wells was previously on an AHL deal, so they had to sign him to an NHL deal in order to potentially use him as a backup for tomorrow's game. Kinda similar to Dallas needing to sign Matthew Murray to an NHL deal yesterday so he could backup Wedgewood with Oettinger out.

The blackhawks must really be hurting if they’d sign Wells. He couldnt even hack it with the wolves last year on what was a championship team. Spent majority of the year in Norfolk of the echl and was bad there, too.

Just looked up the signed Hawks goaltending depth and oh boy. Wells is really not a guy you want to sign unless you have literally no other choice.

Slight difference is Murray also was kind of the best option to sign and call up. He wasn't on an NHL deal yet but training camp and pre-season showed he was very much the third best goalie the Stars had at camp.

Doesn't look like they had many options. Need to have someone wearing the pads, I guess.
