he’s not trash, but he’s not made the most of his opportunities. He was great when first called up last season, but he was sent back when others got healthy. Change of scenery might do him well.

I disagree. I think he's still got an NHL future. Wouldn't be surprised if he's another Gustaffsson (once touted prospect who finds his way in Chicago, not necessarily the point champion he has become).

When the Rangers traded Saarela, many were upset because a lot had high hopes for him and was considered one of our top prospects due to the lack of prospects we had at the time.

Yea I wonder if he asked for a trade.

He probably did... it doesn't look like he was off to a great start in Rockford. And he's at the point where he probably needs to start thinking about where he plays next. If he can't get his NHL break real soon, it's going back to Liiga or KHL for him. And he probably felt like things weren't going so hot in the Hawks org. So off he goes to Florida and maybe a new hope for a last chance. Good on the Hawks for accommodating him. And meanwhile, even limited-but-functional depth D have some commodity value in the modern NHL. They might get some use out of McCoshen, the way modern attrition goes.
