It's interesting watching some teams get their AHL vets locked up for next year. NJ, Tampa, Chicago all seem to be making sure they have their key leadership guys locked in.

Locking up Ice Hog franchise talent is never bad thing for a put butts in seat perspective as well as helping on ice product

Grew up watching Rob Brown, Steve Maltais, Al Secord, Wendell Young and others playing for Wolves so I understand the importance of familiar faces to fans for minor league teams

It's good for making sure the prospects coming through the system have a competent team to play on while they develop

Former 6th round pick, turned 28 earlier this year, has played 66 NHL games, including 4 this year when the Hawks were getting desperate for healthy bodies. Career high in AHL points (although PPG was slightly higher two years ago) with 63 points in 68 games. Estimated career earnings of $1,689,912, broken down last year four years (post-ELC) of $250K, a little over $250K (a few games worth of NHL pro-ration), $475K and $500K.

There is good money in Hockey if you can secure NHL two-way Contracts and hang around as an AHL veteran (of which there are limited spots).
