Sad to see him go but given several factors it was kind of necessary for all parties involved. Unless Markstrom wanted to be severely underpaid and exposed in the expansion draft, there wasn't much reason to stay.

Marky was a good goalie for us and kept us in games we had no business being in. Demko is younger, cost controlled and has the potential to be as good or better at a younger age. Could be better as of this season if he builds off that post season. We can get a cheaper 1b to back him up for a year or two as well.

Playing Marky 6 times a year and in the playoffs will be a rough one, but this is the right move. We can't give him the term+NMC considering his age and Demko's rise. This is the right move by Jimbo
