Claimed off Waivers: [CGY] Flames claim D Joel Hanley off waivers from the Stars

Frozen Failure

They got business in my hockey, and I hate it.

Why didn't they just include him in the trade???

Maybe Nill asked him if he wanted to go to Calgary and he said "not unless I have no choice" ...

He's nothing more than a 7th/8th dman, but damn the Texas Stars really needed him.

Makes sense. CGY knows they will need someone to play the games after they sell all their players at the deadline.

We already need someone, our most NHL ready defense prospect is injured and we used Oesterle last night... the only role that dude should have on a pro hockey team is keeping the seat in the press box warm

Dallas must've wanted the 50k or whatever this costs the Flames for the waiver pickup lol

Occasionally Hanley gets wheeled by top end forwards and loses balance to give up chances every now and then. (Eg he was the D man on the Owen Tippett backhand goal this year)

Apart from that, he's a pretty safe bottom pairing D man to play 30 or 40 a year without many mistakes.

I think it's more about how poorly Gilbert and Oesterle have played the last 2 games and when we trade Hanifin both would be playing

I mean he can't be worse than Oesterle right?

For those interested, this cost Calgary $11,250, paid to Dallas and not counted against the cap.

Season total: $935,625
27 claims
Surprised Murray didn't nix the deal. That 11,250 could have been a new espresso machine in his Swiss chalet.
