Would Cernak accept an offer sheet from Ottawa? He might think he is on the way out of Tampa anyways and this would at least give him some control over where he goes. Ottawa might be bad right now but their future is very bright. Also, his cousin Christian Jaros plays for Ottawa. Ottawa would have to move a RD out however.

To Ottawa: Cernak ($3.25m AAV, 2 years)

To Tampa: 2nd round pick compensation

Pretty sure he'd want more money and probably more term as well with this outbreak.

Not even close to enough money to force Tampa to let him walk or for him to leave Tampa.

If 3.25 mil isn't even close then what is?
You willing to pay 4.5 or 5 mil for him?

Leave the cup champs who paired you with a Norris contender just to sign a 2 year deal and leave to a bottom dweller? Yes, you’d better blow Cernak away with AAV if you aren’t willing to offer him term. Even then I think he wouldn’t sign but wait for the Lightning to get cap flexibility

Doubt it, he would have already signed one by now. He has almost zero reason to think he is on his way out of Tampa as he plays a role with very little depth on the team.

This isn't really a proposal either btw.

Have we heard about any offer sheets being made? Or did he get offered one in your head and in this imagination of yours he threw the offer sheet on the ground ripped open his shirt to reveal a tampa bay logo tattooed on his chest screaming "Get this garbage out of my sight! Lightning for life!!!" ?

And how exactly are they planning to do that? Considering every team know they are already above the cap, and TJ, Palat and Killorn do not want to leave the TBL? You do realize they'll have to, probably, pair any of these guys with a top prospect / pick just to get a team to listen to take on these contracts considering the circumstances?

Fact is, they wouldn't be able to match any OS right now. They already will have a hard time just fitting under the cap w/out Cernak / Cirelli signed. TJ, Palat and Killorn will all cost some top prospects / picks in order to get "rid" of due to the circumstances we know now regarding COVID and flat cap

Yeah, what I said had nothing to do with what the Lightning are planning and 100% about what Cernak would do. Why the hell would Cernak sign on with a chronically bad team like Ottawa on a cheap 2 year deal? Just to screw over his former team?

He wouldn’t

Because in Tampa he would always be in the shadow of other players and would have limited ice time and make limited money.
In Ottawa he would have a chance to be a star in his own rights.

All of this is moot. Ottawa has a plan on how they are going to make it back to the play offs and become a contender. They dont need to be making offer sheets to achieve this.
Ottawa will continue the course and Tampa can figure out a way out of this cap hole they are in.

One has to at least consider the likely possibility that despite being bad for what .. 2 years now that the Senators are trending upwards and I am sure the players are well aware of this fact. In 2 to 3 years we may see Ottawa ahead of Tampa in the standings ... not such a long shot.

Yeah fat chance of Cernak signing that offer sheet to leave Tampa for Ottawa, He'd take far less to stay in Tampa then more to play in Ottawa.

OTT would have to blow him away with an offer, somewhere in the 4.4-6.5 range with some term. That’s a 1st and 3rd as comp and puts TB in a tough spot. TB to OTT is a reverse commute for Canadians.

He'd be better off taking 3 in Tampa than 3.5 in Ottawa. Especially with an all Canadian division likely for 2020-2021, that's a lot of extra tax. Cernak would be better off taking a lesser cap hit in a potential division with Florida, Nashville, and Chicago. Assuming where you play will still matter. I don't see why it would change.

LOL. I love my hometown but why would he want to leave TB to live in Ottawa and everything that goes along with it?

So you think he is worth as much as Krug, Girard, Andersson and more than Sergachev in terms of salary? I think he will get close to what Ryan Graves got from a normal team but less than 3 in a no state tax team like Tampa.

If a contract that's $4,363,095 per year for however many years he is willing up to 5 comes his way he will probably take it and that's only 2nd round pick compensation.

If a team is willing to do that they will probably try to work something out with Tampa before submitting a OS to potentially sign him cheaper than the OS would be since he would be their RFA.

Here is the thing with offer sheets, you have to go with a number that doesn't make sense for the other team to match. So yes, going in at 4.5-5 is probably what you'd need to go to. Why would TBL let a very good young Right shot D with great size leave for 3.25? Of course they are going to match that deal.

Likely because they can't afford him at even 3.25 million?
Cal Foote may be ready to come in to replace Cernak on an ELC.

Tampa can absolutely match an offer sheet. They can go up to 10% over the cap right now and figure it out later.
