April 27th, 2014
It looked as if the Stars could force a 7th game on the Ducks. The Stars crumble after leading 4-2 and lose 5-4 in overtime.
The Stars continued to morph after the 2014 elimination.
The offseason saw the Stars acquire Jason Spezza for a package headlined by Alex Chiasson and Nick Paul.
November of the 2015 season brought interesting changes. Veteran defenseman Sergei Gonchar was traded for Travis Moen. Brenden Dillon was sent to San Jose in exchange for Jason Demers.
These moves allowed the Stars to call up the Ghost of Gothenburg. Who enjoyed an unbelievable rookie season, where he probably would've won the Calder Trophy had he been a Canadian citizen.
In an attempt to bring a worthy backup to Big D, the Stars traded the often underwhelming Anders Lindback to Buffalo for Jhonas Enroth. Enroth featured in 13 games for the Stars, earning a 5-5-0 record and 0.906 sv%.
The night before the trade deadline, the Stars management realized there was no saving the season and Erik Cole was traded to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for two players with the first name 'Mattias'.
One of them just happens to be named Mattias Janmark.
After missing the 2015 playoffs, the Stars realized they needed a steady backup so they threw a bone in the form of a 7th round pick to San Jose for the rights to Antti Niemi. They then re-signed Niemi to a 3 year contract worth 4.5M a season.
The Stars further molded the lineup when they sent Trevor Daley and Ryan Garbutt to Chicago for Patrick Sharp and Stephen Johns.
Not long after that, they signed Johnny Oduya.
This year at the trade deadline, the Stars added a tiny man with a lot of heart. Kris Russell.
We all know how the regular season went. The Dallas Stars improved from a 41-31-10 and 19th in the league in 14-15 to 50-23-9, good for second place in the NHL.
Now they're ready to do it again in the playoffs.
