According to Friedman, he has definitely heard that Carolina is interested in Miller, goes to say interest might stem all the way back to summer.

For salary purposes, if a trade happens then its almost certian that Kotkaniemi + is the return.

Miller 263 pts in his last 253 games. New contract starts next season. 8mil AAV for 7 years
46 pts in 51 games thus far this year.

No Trade Clause will start in July

Friedman isnt the only that has been hinting that there has been conversation being had for Miller

Carolina continues to collect former Rangers

I think Miller would thrive in Carolina under a coach like Brindamour.

He also replaces what Carolina thought they would have with Max Pac.

If JT Miller was to be a free agent this year, you gotta believe there would be a lineup of teams that would be willing to go 8x7 for him especially considering what Horvat just got, so the question is, is Carolina one of those teams that would have been interested.

KK 4.8M till 2030 or Miller 8M till 2030, Miller is obviously the better player now but he'll be 37, KK will be 29

I find it hard to believe that anyone would wanna commit that type of money to Miller but we'll see. if VAN retains 500k to 1M they might do it to allin for the Cup. (edit: seems like you can't retain on a contract that hasn't started yet?)

Miller's contract will eventually be brutal but the question is when, KK is pretty brutal right now but you gotta wonder if there's still upside with him (and if Carolina is willing to wait). It's an interesting trade to think about for sure, Carolina is competing now.

If anyone does trade for Miller i definitely think it'll be Carolina.

My guess is everyone that had interest in Miller pre-extension will be leaked to make it seem like they have interest still in Miller post-extension. What's said here has that flavor imo.
Were the Hurricanes even one of the teams rumoured last year? If they were the reported interest was nowhere near as high as it was with some other teams

Can't retain on a contract that hasn't started yet, I don't think.

Friedman said he doesn’t believe in this rumor on his podcast. He said it was something that was maybe discussed in the summer and that he doesn’t think there’s anything to it. This thread is based on useless information.

He says others are piecing together threads to make this a rumor, but he thinks it died in the summer. There was talk of a three team Tkachuk/Miller trade that involved the Canes. That’s it. The Canes wanted Tkachuk and were close it was reported over the summer.

This is all bunk now.

Hopefully he is right this time.

You find it hard to believe that someone would want to commit 8 mil a year on a player that scored 263 pts in his last 253 games?

Have you never seen free agency before?

Horvat just got 8.5 mil for 8 years and he has never scored over 65 points.

Kadri 7x7 till he is 38 yrs old

etc etc.. the list goes on...

if Miller wsa a free agent this off-season he easily gets 8x7, especially with the cap going way up.

GMs dont care about the back end of these contracts because they wont be around to suffer for them

You’re being irresponsible posting this and using it for trade rumors purpose. Friedman himself shoots this down in his podcast.

Just listen to the podcast people.

Sorry, not sure what Van is thinking. No one is giving them a 1st rounder and top spects for Miller and that horrible contract. They should just get out of his contract, they are obviously rebuilding. Why tie up the cap space for him?

KK can be bought out at 1/3 his contract which is All salary. He won’t turn 26 until July 2026 so they can buy him out before then at 1/3.

At $4.8 mill AAV his buyout dead cap would be around $800k for a long time (12 years if they give him next season for example). Not a crippling dead cap hit if they find KK isn’t worth the contract after a year.

But KK wouldn’t be regarded as the main piece. Just for salary cap reasons.

Just ignoring the “but he doesn’t see it happening” part huh?

Who cares if Friedman doesnt see it happening, he doesnt make the moves....his job is to report what he hears and he has heard plenty that Carolina is interested in Miller.

Maybe the Canucks asking price is way to high as to why Friedman doesnt see it happening... Regardless, his sources are telling him that Carolina is in conversation
