Genuinely curious, do Canes fans consider Caps their rivals? Judging from the initial twitter searches it seems they’re more upset about Ovechkin punching Svech than the Caps fans are upset over the loss lol.

Not an identity-defining rival, or even as contentious/petty as this thing with Montreal lately.

But they’re division rivals coming off a dramatic 7-game playoff series where there was some social media shade going back and forth, and geographically close to each other. They’re occasionally going to be the rivalry du jour.

Canes and capitals have been in the same division since the southeast days- in 08 the caps took the division and automatic playoff spot on the last day of the regular season. More recently their coaching staffs almost came to blows during a preseason game.

Good stuff. Caps will need a new rival after Pitt’s decline. Even if it’s a manufactured one.

I don't know who is the trainee doing social marketing for the Canes but he should get good references!
