Before Expansion Draft, probably after regular season.

To Carolina:
G- Linus Ullmark

To. Buffalo:
D- Roland McKeown

So our solid rookie defensive prospect who's doing well in the AHL and has NHL potential for a 23-year old decent AHL goalie? What do the Canes gain from this? Easy pass, no interest or value to the Canes

Ullmark projects as a backup at best. Sabres had 2 chances at McKeown at the 2014 draft. He obviously wasn't worth #31, but Murray passed on him at 44 and 49 (1 pick ahead of where McKeown was picked) to draft Cornel and Karabacek who will be career minor leaguers. Sabres had their chance and blew it.

I think the sabres technically need Ullmark on the books so that they have a goalie to expose, as Nillson is a UFA after this year, and Lehner will likely be protected.

But they could simply sign Nillson to a one year extension. He's proven to be a pretty capable backup.

Man you speaking in absolutes on any buffalo player is getting tough. Especially since you change your absolute opinions randomly

They need to entice Cal Petersen to sign, I don't think they want a Jimmy Vesey situation. Ergo, they sign Petersen, let Petersen and Ullmark compete to back up Lehner and make the runner up the man in Rochester.

Or Ullmark gets taken via expansion, hence why I'd like to see the Sabres get an expansion exempt defenseman for him if possible.

Ullmark will not get taken via expansion. And if he does, so what. Why are we all so high on this guy? He has potential, sure, but Vegas is only going to be taking what, 3 goalies max via Expansion? I don't see them using one of those spots on Ullmark

I think they'll likely take whoever we don't protect out of the forward group of Ennis, Foligno, Larsson, Girgensons. We have 3 spots to protect those 4. Loser is LV bound. Unless it's Ennis and LV doesn't want to take his salary... then all bets are off

I'd just hope that we could get Vegas to look at taking something like Ennis or Moulson. You get rid of Ullmark and it's down to one of those guys, Gorges or Deslauriers, which makes a guy like Ennis look quite palatable

Never wavered on Karabacek or Cornel. Hated them since day 1 and are worthless players. You think either will be NHL players? They are career minor league fodder.

The premise isn't crazy, as the Canes are eventually going to have to find a goalie one way or another. And McKeown is one of the guys who might be going the other way when it happens.

That said, they need someone who projects as a #1 in the reasonably near future. Ullmark doesn't look like that guy, so it would be a waste of a good young defenseman to do this.

Would Cal Petersen be a better value, same fit? He projects to be the superior goalie. Finishing college next year.

He's been lights out at times. Even a mediocre starting goalie on an ELC is a nice asset though.

He's not signed... making his value minimal, at best. A la Jimmy Vesey

That was kind of my thinking process, but I don't see McKeown getting the type of goalie you'd be looking for. Ullmark is young, has #1 upside (he's in front of s terrible defense in Rochester this year and I believe was an All-Star selection), has good size and if Lehner faltered this year he would've been up to challenge for some games, but Buffalo has been solid in net all year.

Drama, overreaction and absolutes is mind numbing. And those that see the pattern have wrote those posters off. Especially when they flip flop after months or years of saying the exact opposite. Plain as day.

Why can't more people have the ability to have an even tempered, logical thought process regarding players, value of players, and the moves GM's make. It's messed up. Such an immature pissing match.

I would keep Ullmark. No thanks with the trade proposal. I want to see Ullmark develop more as a Sabre.
