Meh, it’s one game. It’s unfortunate that the standings are as close as they are, but I’m not going to get stressed out about a bad game in a season of very good ones.

Yeah, I mean, by reading in this thread, it seems like we was back in the wonderful times of 2015 all over again.

Not a good game, yes, but I rather have a couple of bad games (Columbus, tonight) than have over half the season of games like this.

Take a chill pill guys and girls, it's one of 82 games. They'll come back.

So an aside.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to find/removed an old (30 years?) barbed wire fence? I found some in my yard today, and while I knew it was there before, it seems like its going around the entire border, and it makes me a bit worried with kids and pets running around

I took out a bunch when I first moved up to the lake (house borders what used to be pasture). I used really heavy gloves and a bolt cutter. I just followed strands of barbed wire, pulling them out of the ground where they went under. When they started to go too deep to easily pull up I'd just dig a little bit, cut them off a couple inches below ground level, then follow the fence line looking for anything above ground and start again. I can't think of any reason to remove the wire that's buried more than an inch or so; it was the stuff that was still strung that really concerned me.

Yeah that's about right

This is reminiscent of a story I heard about the Nassau Coliseum in the mid-80s.

Apparently there was a little gap at the bottom of the boards in the end zone. A security guard figured out that he could inconspicuously stick the tip of his shoe into that gap whenever the puck came around the boards, conveniently slowing down a hard dump-in.

Couple thoughts:

In the big scheme of things, I wonder if the LaF signing was realistically designed as much as emergency support for the Wolves as for the Canes? With at least one game in The Show as bait to sign (and maybe a "raffle ticket" shot for the Canes)?

I'm wondering if the Ayres game maybe gave the Borg an inflated sense of optimism that the Canes D might be able to support a goalie even as raw as LaF for a game or two? (oops)

That was brutal for LaF, but at least now he'll forever be able to say that he was an NHL goalie. From the look of things, if he hadn't taken advantage of this opportunity you've got to wonder if he'd have otherwise ever made it into an NHL game? Plus it put a couple bucks into his pocket.

Sometimes shit just doesn't work out; onward and upward.
Obviously they signed Lafontaine because he was the most easily available body they had. Nothing more and no NHL readiness involved in the decision. And he left school because his odds to get time on an NHL roster and make NHL money beyond a signing bonus were going to be slim. He had to go for it, because it was his chance to stick. The odds of that were slim and the expected outcome has come to fruition.

Canucks next up with bringing in a sub-par/not ready College goalie as backup versus Blues as 4 of their 5 goalies are out with Covid.

Dealing with unprecedented absences in net, Canucks' minor-league magic runs out

I hope Raanta gets healthy quickly or Borg goes out and buys a quality backup.

Waited for a day to let y'all simmer down, but the highlights were hard to watch. See you again LaFontaine in a couple of years.

But I'm not sure the rally around the flag was there either.

Or maybe it was just a really good game for the Devils.

I love how we're allowed to dwell on these. Some other boards just lock it up and on to the next one. You miss a lot of nuance that way.

It could be as simple as both things being true. Our defense was lackluster, especially in front of what is essentially our 3rd/4th string goalie, but in the same vein, LaFontaine clearly struggled in net. Whether it was nerves or the speed of the game or what have you, performances like that don’t keep you in the NHL for very long.

But it’s one game, and we get a chance for a bit of revenge on Saturday, so as long as we don’t completely shit the bed tomorrow, this game will be nothing but a bump in the road.
