He did that well in Vancouver. He's really good at tricking teams into thinking he is good over a small initial sample.
Good for him getting these hot streaks that lead to some more contracts
but they never last
and when this guy is cold, you'd be better off placing a 2x4 into the crease as your goalie.

Right now the only goalie in the minor league system under contract is Yanev Perets, a college UFA Carolina signed last spring with an .879 in the ECHL.He's our #3 guy after Andersen and Kochetkov lol. We don't exactly need a world-beater or anything, just someone who can back up Andersen whenever he has his yearly health concern. Good in small samples is exactly what we need.
I'm sure this contract will make waiving him extremely inconsequential to the team's cap. Canes have Pyotr and Freddie next year and I bet sign another #3 in the offseason. Doesn't hurt to have depth and he's had some great games for the team in desperate situations (when Raanta was playing like an ECHL backup, and Freddie and PK were hurt). He's really good at tricking teams into thinking he is good over a small initial sample.
Worst goalie I've ever seen when he was with VAN. No lieHe did that well in Vancouver.
God he was horrible.
You clearly never saw peak Scott Darling or early-season RaantaWorst goalie I've ever seen when he was with VAN. No lie
Martin Brochu rings an instant bell for Canucks fans. Hes legendary for how awful he was.Worst goalie I've ever seen when he was with VAN. No lie

It can get worse. I promise. I promise.
Here's my favorite recent one from early this season: Tampa scoring 8 goals on 14 shots. You heard that right.
Raanta didn’t play well that game and as crazy as it sounds only giving up 14 shots, if you watch the highlight pack, it’s atrocious defence more than bad goaltending in my opinion.
The first 3 goals, I’m not going to say they are unstoppable but two are laser cross ice passes on the powerplay for rocket one timers from the dots. The third goal was another powerplay goal on a cross ice pass where the guy is all alone out front. Those ones for sure aren’t on Raanta at all.
I’d say one or two more of the goals were legit, hard to stop goals where Raanta is in a bad spot because the defence just let Tampa walk in an do whatever they wanted on the play. The other ones were below average and definitely stoppable.
Like I said, Raanta clearly didn’t play well overall but I don’t think it’s fair to hang to 8 spot solely on him. It was a team effort.
Definitely. It looks bad and would it have been nice on goals 4-8 if Raanta made a save or two on some above average difficulty shots? Sure but it wasn’t changing the outcome. If he doesn’t let us two softies then the Canes only give up 5-6 instead of 8. Super great. Also it’s not like those were scrubs. He was facing wide open shots from Stamkos, Kucherov, Point.
Agreed that maybe 2 of those goals you pin on the goalie, the rest were a team getting run out of the building after the second insurance goal put it out of reach.
