This, basically a numbers' game.

- Only 40 players signed to NHL contracts.
- Can't count on an AHL affiliate to provide players on AHL contracts.
- Can't count on unsigned prospects for the most part, because the vast majority won't be available. (Out of a 34-player reserve list, goaltender Jakub Vondras is the lone current CHLer, the rest are mainly playing in US Colleges, Russia or Sweden.)

I love stuff like this, because you just know there's some sort of hilarious historical anecdote buried way way back behind this.


Like, "oh yeah, that's Gerhardt, he's an idiot. Always f***s up and only gets half a crop". And thus a surname was born.
