I think it depends on what happens this summer. If they can bring in a quality veteran who has been a captain somewhere else, that may be the better way to go. I've got no idea who this guy might be though. If they can't then they might as well name McDavid. I've almost done a 180 on this since training camp. I didn't see the need for McDavid to get it so early in his career. I was really hoping one of the "core" guys was going to step up this year. Now that it hasn't happened and the team is on the verge of being blown up, it might be okay to send the message that this is his team going forward.

I don't see why he shouldn't be. He leads this team on the ice in the majority of games so far so it makes perfect sense. He would probably thrive even more as Captain anyway IMO.
