Just keep playing the young guys and see what they got.

Hathaway, Hagelin, etc can all be scratched/traded if needed. Would be nice for some of the young kids to develop and be huge weapons come end of season. Plus, we've seen how this team has been end of seasons last couple years. More youth the better.

Easy now. Been the best 4th line in hockey for two years now. But I have dreams of moving Hags and his $2.75M contract and replacing him with Beck (or AJF). We need Hathaway and Dowd although i suspect this will be Dowds last year as he is UFA and will get paid elsewhere and we’ll have Eller/CMM as 4C.

I’d like to see Sheary-Protas-Leason as protected 4th line tonight. CMM as 2C and Eller as 3C (with Hags and Hathaway).

well with Ain'tBackstrom, Noshie and DowdIt odds are pretty good for Reg loss #1

Hope Protas and the yutes show some moxie and the team puts on a good one

Maybe one of Eller/Sheary/Wilson/McMic can break their goose eggs tonight

Careful what you wish for. I know it seems like he makes too much but having a defensive specialist with speed and a veteran presence is pretty valuable.

Looking forward to seeing the 6' 6" Protas on the ice.

its more about putting the whole puzzle together. I don’t dislike Hags and I know he has value. But not 2.75M worth of value. And his salary cap hit means we can’t bring in others at end of year when they are nicked up. That is why happened last year. You can’t put people on IR and replace their salary. You still have to be within the cap. it is only LTIR that allows for cap relief. But AJF offers speed. Beck offers physical presence. Both offer good PK skills. None of the three score for sh+t so nothing lost there. And when Backstrom, TJ, and Dowd are healthy, there is plenty of leadership. Hags has the only “replaceable” Cap hit. not gonna be Shultz, Mantha, or Carlson. And moving Irwin, Cholowski, Sprong, etc doesn’t move the needle enough.

This is a road game. Bolts get last change. That creates a....uh....situation
We have to be careful of sheltering for defensive zone starts. 4th line will probably only be deployed on neutral zone starts.

He'll get smoked tonight in the 1st period. VV has looked shaky as of late and is not the same goalie that lost 2-1 in OT to the Bolts. The Caps should have let Sammy start to try to build off his shutout. You are paying him $2 million, so find out what he's made of against his country man and against the reigning Cup Champs and the best goalie in the game now! To me this shows how much goalie coach Scott Murray doesn't know.

Pretty cool if the big fella gets on the ice tonight.

This season's been a treat for us that way - been awhile since we've seen the Caps ice this many rookies while also not being s shitshow.

Ed - of course, the reasons we may see Protas are a bit murky at the moment.

Tampa has been vulnerable this year, and especially now with Kucherov out.

Even with a few players out I think Washington should be able to play them close tonight.

Offer good pk skills and Hagelin level play are NOT the same thing. There are those that would tell you that Hagelin is the driver of that 4th line. This is a cup winning veteran with hard to come by skills. A rookie is not going to replace him. The Caps have already moved their entire left defense side of their penalty kill. Now you want to ditch the leading forward penalty killer and mess with the team's 5 on 5 shutdown line. You are doing this with still developing young goaltenders. That is how rebuilding teams operate. Not a team trying to win something.
