A question regarding cap... some teams like the Maple Leafs or Knights are over the cap according to Capfriendly. What is the point of the cap limit if teams exceed it? Is it possible that contracts of injured players who are on the LTIR list are not counted? I never understood that

it's a hard cap that is not a hard cap

a hard luxury tax system would be more transparent, with no LITR exemptions, etc

LTIR contracts count, but you can exceed the cap by the value of your LTIR contract overage.

According to Elliot Friedman, this topic is going to be discussed at the upcoming GMs meetings, with more and more GMs being in favor of the cap being in place during the playoffs, as well. That would certainly change things in a big way.

Necessary move, imo.

Let’s say a guy should probably get surgery in the offseason, but maybe rehab works. If it doesn’t, surgery 2 months into the season has him back.. just around playoffs, huh. Pretty convenient for the team if the surgery happened then.

I think it’s getting to be more and more a perverse incentive, where guys are potentially going to be basing medical decisions on timing and not necessity.
