Players with term left don't retire anymore. Ferland retiring officially makes no sense. He's still due significant money. Ferland will just be put on LTIR, and he'll never be cleared while insurance likely pays 80% of the contract. I mean, Nathan Horton and David Clarkson are still officially "active" players in that regard. Both will likely file retirement papers once they get their last check from the Leafs.

It's probably an extension for Markstrom.
