can we put them into one thread honestly

also continuing

Should've gone 8 years for EP, I would've gone bridge with Hughes
He wouldn’t have taken term. EP was clearly trying to set himself up to hit free agency or at least have the leverage to do so and he did that.

His agents won big here. They got the slight overpayments on AAV (marginal) but they got him huge leverage depending on that QO.

AT that AAV I'd rather a cpl more years. But I guess these bridge deals are for a reason.

I’m just glad it got done. The team success in these next 3 years is the most important factor in determining Petey’s value for the next contract.

@Peen

Thread is locked but QO rules have changed. It can only be 120% of AAV so shouldn’t be more than 8.25-8.5
Oh, interesting, wasn’t aware. I mean, the leverage still remains.

My way of interpreting this deal is it’s basically a four year deal at $8.5MM with a fourth year player option. But, he’ll either be signed or dealt during the summer after the third year because you don’t lose a player like that for free.

Bad math bro. It’s $9.3m. It’s essentially a 4 year $32m deal and Pettersson is ufa at the earliest possible year.
is it 120% max and can be negotiated within 100-120% or 120% automatically?

Hopefully Pettersson has a low QO and the deal is front loaded… If he wants to buy his UFA status it’ll be on a cheap 1 year deal risking injury.

I don’t mind this deal depending on what you guys are just talking about being the last year. Seems to be in line with what he should be getting.

Jim Benning.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but I don’t see this one as Jim’s fault. Pettersson and Hughes enlisted one of the top agencies in the game to get maximum dollar, and one of their tactics was to sit and wait out the other key RFA signings to try and set a market.
IMO, the Canucks would have eagerly signed both these deals a good while ago.

Just my read on it.

I would prefer term with Pettersson but it takes two to tango. But anything under 8 for Pettersson is amazing.

I really feel like Pettersson will emerge as a top 20 player in the world during the next three years so we could end up paying out the nose for him after this deal.

I wonder if we could've got something done around 9 million for 7 years if Pettersson had more faith in the management group.

I doubt we will ever be able to buy this low on him again.

Looks like Canucks didn’t wanna give him that 3rd year. Guess they caved as it got closer to the season
