Yeah that's a tough one to swallow. After all we dealt with, with Loui and the other bad contracts, and we were almost there. Then we trade for the worst contract of all.

It's kind of like in the Lord of the Rings if Sam and Frodo spent 3 books going through the long journey and all the pain and suffering getting all the way to the foot of Mount Doom just to be captured and tortured for another 3 books.

But but but but OEL was injured, and...and stuff! I mean surely he'll magically bounce back next year!

You just gotta BELIEVE!

Option #1: Miller + #11 for #3 (Carlsson)+ Peeke/Bean
Option #2: Miller for Sillinger, Peek/Bean + pick

Trade Beau for pick.

If you literally broke your foot..couldnt train over the summer, and played under the constraints of a recovering broken foot. You would most likely be far off your optimum performance....One would indeed expect you would be better the following season with proper recovery time, and training.

Better than the previous year but not better than the year before that. I expect a bounce-back but not to the level of his first season here. Broken feet are extremely tricky* and it's not good to assume he'll be back to what he was just because of time.

*this is the one injury I can speak to with a lot of experience

These trades look too good for Vancouver.

I think we’re realistically looking at something like Miller for Peeke, Roslovic/2nd, and Ceulmans.

Personally, I’d be interested in a deal around Boqvist as he’s a RHD and appears poised for a breakout.

CBJ are not trading the 3rd OA.

Whats this love affair with Sillinger..?..He had 3 goals in 64 games (he was outscored by Jack Studnicka) and spent time in the minors...Basically, he Podkolzined...That trade would essentially annihilate us down the middle.

What is his optimum performance? Is it anything even remotely close to pretending that he's worth 7 mil for another 4 years?

The trade , and his contract are ripe for fair criticism...thats a whole different discussion.

Optimum performance is being able to play pain free, and be able to regain mobility that you didnt have under the constraints of playing through a broken foot...Also, be able to train, and get your entire body physically ready for training camp.

Sounds like an opportunity to not qualify him.
Hmm, no contract, injured and desperate. A good chance for Benn....Allvin to double down on another LTIR contract.

Trade Bo with 1.5 mil retention for .....

Good idea, use some of that non-existent cap space and waste it for a year or longer OR sign him to a 5 mil short term contract, 2 yrs, and place him on LTIR so that can be used to enlarge the team's cap hit!

It would give a hint as to the 4 GM's thought process, another year spinning the wheels. Can't tell the fans that though

I wouldn't trade #3 either but:
  1. Jarmo's crazy
  2. Going to want someone more experienced at C in the Top 6 that is not Jenner
  3. They still have Kent and Cole
Regarding Sillinger, I'm not looking at stats especially from last year. He was looking great as a rookie and if they do decide to keep #3 (and draft Carlsson), they would still have Kent.

I'd prefer to target Kent but I don't think that's possible.

I would not qualify Bear.

I'm worried the team will use this as an opportunity to get him at a "discount" on term.

Tough break for Bear but yeah paying a premium for a #5 dman is not something this team can afford to do with all the unnecessary money they already have tied up on defense and wing

8) Conor Garland

The Canucks are in salary cap jail and they know it. The rest of their summer plans cannot be enacted until they free up salary cap space, and they’ve been actively checking prices on Garland as their preference to move to alleviate their cap concerns. Garland, who played for Rick Tocchet in Arizona, is a scrappy but undersized winger who has struggled to find a comfortable fit in the Lower Mainland. With three years left at nearly $5 million, will a team take a flier? He’s essentially a free asset, as the Canucks have found teams that are asking for assets in return to take him off their hands.

11) JT Miller

The way Miller closed out the season under new coach Rick Tocchet, it’s easy to envision him in the Canucks’ opening night lineup in October. He posted 41 points in 35 games under Tocchet, who will have no problem managing Miller’s challenging locker room presence. Yet, we know that the Canucks were deep in talks with the Penguins to move Miller before the deadline. Those fizzled and now Pittsburgh’s regime has changed. Has that trade partner evaporated? How much will the Canucks push to move him before his “no-trade” clause kicks in on July 1? They could desperately use the cap flexibility. You have to allow for the possibility in a depressed free agent market that a team will covet Miller enough to make a play.

23) Tyler Myers

Myers is a trade that might not materialize right at the beginning of the summer – if at all. Keep an eye on the $5 million signing bonus due. The belief is Myers’ bonus is due to be paid in September, shortly before training camp, which would leave him with just $1 million in salary to be paid after that during the course of the regular season. For any team interested acquiring team, there’s little incentive to pick up that tab when you know the Canucks are on the hook for it. That means a trade could come together shortly after it’s paid, though it also makes him a heck of deadline commodity.

So trade Garland plus assets cause team needs space?

Sounds very Canucks.

Maybe put it as a trade down?

It must be very obvious that Jarmo Kekalainen is going all in on his last year of his contract and that the BJ's want to win now.

He has never been shy about trading ANY asset if he feels it improves his team and has been quick to pull the trigger.

IF rumour are true he has one of the best NHL coaches ready to sign in a few weeks.
He just revamped most of his defence next year's top 4 will be much superior to last year's.
All he needs now is proven point production and a center.

He could just wait and see if the young players suddenly take a quantum leap and maybe they will but then he needs veteran top six depth at the least.

A blind man can see he is building for a cup run NOW and number 3 overall just might be worth a 90 point center.

To say that it is impossible that he would trade the #3 overall, a player unlikely to be much help in a cup run on a team that already has multiple prospects signed and to be signed to get not just into the playoffs but be good enough to make a run is not being .....

Kieko has been building for this for 2 years and now

a top defence with size and depth
A proven winning coach with a coach bump included
Signed Gaudreau
Signed Laine

The team needs depth scoring, where does that come from? Team needs another center.

IMO the #3 is on the table with the right offer but he won't trade it away for a player on a one year deal, he will want a term player for that pick.

Now a question, is JT Miller THE player to build a cup contender around?
