Here’s my spreadsheet for upcoming UFAs, each team’s cap situation, and a trade tracker. I update the spreadsheet daily. I use CapFriendly to create this list and AFP Analytics for the contract projections.

Edit: Spreadsheet has been updated with AFP's latest projections and I added a new section for RFAs.

I think the best thing would be a 1 year contract and play him 2nd pairing minutes. If he can carry a pairing and produce then maybe he's deserving of #2 money. He's a #3 that will be passed on the depth chart by Willander in a few years. Definitely can't afford to overpay guys who don't produce in the playoffs.
Just trade him, I would rather have the cap

Treliving can overpay for Zadorov. I've loved having Zaddy on this team but I want no part in anything close to a 6x6 contract. No way.
Lot’s of good big defenceman in free agency this year. Canucks strategy of 4 Huge D behind Hughes & Hronek worked incredibly well in the playoffs, should go with something similar in the offseason retool.

Team needs a puck retriever who can also be a net front presense

This is the biggest team need, too many perimeter players just coasting, need more tenacity and bite up front, gritty forwards with that dog in em to get to the dirty areas consistently, forwards that play brutally hard and win board battles, ferocious puck retrievers who don’t let defenders clear the puck or exit the zone and make them pay.

Notable RFAs:
F Hronek - I don't love going to 7.5M AAV, but it's clear he was battling something. That's a bit of a silver lining in keeping the cost down but his agent Allan Walsh is also a psycho.
A Silovs - obvious re-sign but I do wonder if you can get a pretty penny for him at the draft. He let in 5 or 6 goals from distance and that pretty much sunk us, particularly when the strategy was to keep shots to the perimeter.

Notable UFAs:
T Blueger - the offense hasn't been there but if you can get him on a multi year deal at under 2M AAV I think you do it.
D Joshua - like Hronek, a quiet playoffs might keep his price down. Wouldn't blame the guy for chasing what might be his only paycheque ever. Maybe 3.5M AAV?
S Lafferty - drop. it's either him or Blueger and I pick the latter each time.
E Lindholm - would love to keep but the money might not work if a team like Boston throws a blank cheque at him.
I Cole - drop. I really liked him at times but it's obvious that the wear and tear of Tocchet's system took it's toll on him, and early too.
M Friedman - would keep but I presume he'll try a place with more playing time.
T Myers - shockingly one of our best defensemen in the playoffs. Weird that I'm leaning towards keeping him. Think if you can get him on a multi-year deal around 2-3M AAV you do it.
N Zadorov - not a 6M defenseman, probably not a 5M defenseman, but he gives the team attitude. I think the Canucks get outbid here.
C DeSmith - played well to start but didn't love his overly active playstyle. Would drop for Silovs.

I thought this was actually one of the team's strengths. They were really good at using pressure for board battles. The issue was the possession not turning into shots. I'd have to re-watch but I got the impression that a lot of our guys weren't getting shot chances from the inside part of the circle.

Woodley talked about this during his hit on Canucks Talk today. Silovs is really good in tight due to his natural abilities and Ian Clark's system. He needs time and reps in the NHL to get used to NHL screens - guys are bigger and faster than in the AHL. He'll get there.

Was he that bad?

He was actually quite good but doesn’t have any stand out NHL traits. He would have been a long shot to make the NHL squad as a 7th/8th defensemen next season so there was no incentive for him to stick around and find out.

I think Vancouver is going to go very hard after re-signing Lindholm. If he can get 7x8m as a UFA—I don’t think the Canucks will hesitate to go 8x7m. I don’t think many understand how rare a top-nine RH center is that is effective at both ends of the ice, can win many faceoffs, and be your lead penalty killer.

The term is a bit scary, but I think they are willing the hedge a bet that he will age appropriately and that the salary will be league average by the 2nd half for a top-nine center.

If "Your Vancouver Canucks" trade Demko with Mikheylev for a positive asset, they would then have 35M in Cap space.

Boom

Sign Hronek, Zadorov, Lindholm, Myers and Joshua and have cap to sign Tanev and probably a meaningful UFA winger.

or

They can slip back into the Elmer plan of being "too late."

I agree on the first one. We have several players with heavy and accurate shots from the point, Hronek is one that is notable. Our powerplay doesn't operate that way though, apparently. There is no point in investing more money in something that we won't use. A good net front presence seems like a no brainer though.. Unless we are considering that to be Lindholm (some success in that role) or Joshua (never really tried in that role on the powerplay).

I think of our pending UFAs, he's got to be the biggest priority. He came up huge when Pettersson wilted, and his game in the playoffs - offensively, defensively and physically - was terrific all around.

In looking at the numbers this morning, we're kind of one expensive guy away from flexibility. This is what I would like to see:

Hronek @ 7mil
Zadorov @ 5.8mil
Lindholm @ 7mil
Joshua @ 3mil
Blueger @ 2mil
Myers @ 3mil

We could technically afford all of that IF we found a way to move Mikheyev. But, we would have only 3.8mil left to sign a right side defenseman and ideally another forward that could slip into the top 6 (at that rate, likely a reclamation project).

That would be our best "run it back" option. The thing about Mikheyev is, I don't know, he could rebound next year... But even still, he's just really expensive for what he brings. A buyout really isn't an option, and it would probably cost us a 2nd round pick to move him. If we have to keep him, then we could let Blueger and Myers walk instead. We'd have to role Aman or a prospect at 4C, and we'd only have about 3.25mil to add two defensemen.

Like I said, we're one heavy contract away from flexibility. Our management team likely has some other ideas on what we need as well though, so I imagine this template is far off from what they'll actually do haha.
