Here’s my spreadsheet for upcoming UFAs, each team’s cap situation, and a trade tracker. I update the spreadsheet daily. I use CapFriendly to create this list and AFP Analytics for the contract projections.

Edit: Spreadsheet has been updated with AFP's latest projections and I added a new section for RFAs.

55 points in 78 games, most of which were played with the imploding Devils who had worse goaltender than Edmonton does right now. He was one of the few good players on a Jets team that got torn to pieces by the Avs.

Not sure how you'd equate this to being done.

My ideal signings would be Toffoli and either Bertuzzi or Duclair. All of them should be somewhehre in the 4-5M range. Depending how things go with our UFAs (plus Hronek), we should be able to afford both. This does assume we dump Mikheyev with a potential sweeter but I feel that's more than worth the cost.

I'm exlcuding Guentzel here because I just don't think that happens. Would be nice but someone's giving him 9.5-10M. That isn't going to be us.
I don't think Toffoli is done, but he is slowing. The 55 points looks solid, but a lot of it was racked up very early in the season when NJ's PP was on a crazy bender. The production really dried up after that. I would probably look elsewhere. Not because I don't think Toffoli can't contribute, but I think the forward group needs a different element. Toff does a lot of the same (forecheck/OZ cycle offense).

If they gotta go the cheap-ish route, I'd look at Duclair. I think they need a rush playmaker/finisher for some offensive diversity. The higher-end option in this vein is Debrusk, and I think he can also mesh with the Canucks' current style. He would be pricier though.

I get the Bertuzzi fit, but he just looked so....off with Toronto. Like, his hands were awful. Doing the right things in the OZ, but plays died on his stick and he couldn't finish. And he was handed plum opportunities. I fear a Mikeheyev 2.0. scenario.

Tyler TwoSlowly is done
What him go to Florida and shine eh.

Canucks playoff grades so far:

  1. Miller
  2. Boeser
  3. Garland
  4. Lindholm
  5. Zadorov
  6. Hughes
  7. Joshua
  8. Silovs
  9. Myers
  10. Soucy
  11. Blueger
  12. Suter
  13. Pettersson
  14. DeSmith
  15. Hronek
  16. Cole
  17. Lafferty
  18. PDG
  19. Hoglander
  20. Juulsen
  21. Karlsson
  22. Aman
  23. Mikheyev
Hronek really isn't helping his RFA status this post season and man the Canucks need to find a way to resign Joshua and Lindholm is making this offseason look really interesting.

Does anyone know if you're allowed to bring up playoff production and performance in an arbitration case against a player?

Kane likely knew about Kyle Beach being assaulted and did absolutely nothing about it. We don't know that he wasn't one of the people making derogatory comments about it (we also don't know that he was).

Not a chance I want him here.
Oh Frick I actually forgot about that, which is my bad. I retract my idea. Vatrano would still be a good fit though

You can bring up pretty much any kind of evidence you want in arbitration.
You think of Hronek too?
1. I've been more negative about Hronek's actual play than anyone here, since the trade. I never actually bought in when he was getting points, because his defensive play was worrying then.

2. The opinion pendulum on him has swung too far the other way now. He is clearly dealing with a somewhat significant injury and it's been speculated he has been for some time.

3. Getting to arbitration is the worst case scenario with Hronek. If they can't agree on a price, he has to be traded.

Yeah, I don't think Hronek is as bad as these playoffs would indicate (and he has been pretty brutal) - but going to arbitration would suck.

Move # 1 that needs to happen for the off-season is jettisoning Mikheyev and his contract to give us the flexibility to work on all our other pieces.

If I’m Allvin I’d be threatening Hronek’s agent that if a long term contract isn’t signed and a 1 year arbitration deal is the outcome he will be dealt and it won’t be to a situation where he’s stapled to the league’s best defender. Given Hronek’s injury history and depending kn where he could end up, he could be looking at a Klingberg-like situation.

Walsh can talk a big game, but Hronek signing a long term extension THIS offseason is his clients best bet.

Couple of interesting Jets news coming out today.

Marat Ates doesn't mention the Canucks in the article and Ehlers playoff resume is very poor but I wouldn't be surprised if there's interest.

And future Canucks 3rd pairing LD Brendan Dillon will not be re-signing with the Jets.

Hronek for Ehlers done deal. One year of team control left for each player.

Ehlers strapped to Pettersson's line.

I would be interested in Dillon as the Cole replacement...

I’d pass on Ehlers. He has an extensive injury history with a lot of games missed and has underwhelming playoff numbers. I don’t think he’d be much of an upgrade over a player like Hoglander, especially when you consider their ages and trajectories.

Ehlers always looks fantastic when I watch him but the production doesn’t match the eye test. Odd player.
I mean he doesn’t get consistent pp1/L1 time, he’d easily be a PPG+ player if he did.

But the playoff stats are so bad that I’d be scared to acquire him.

I agree - I don't think Ehlers is the type of player this organization wants to target.

I think the playoff production is mental, same with Marner. I bet if these guys change orgs they’ll perform better.

I tried to look and see if there was any trade comparables for Ehlers. Figured the following parameters were important:

-forward
-one-year remaining before UFA
-similar age
-similar production
-similar cap-hit
-traded in the off-season

I couldn't find anything recent. Went back over 10 years.

Closest I could find was Dave Bolland from the Blackhawks to the Maple Leafs in 13-14 and his career numbers at that point weren't anywhere near Ehlers. He did have a much better playoff resume. His cap hit was significantly lower but probably somewhat comparable (3.375m). His return was a 2nd & two 4ths.

Looking at the greater landscape of the NHL offseason, I think there may be a lot of hockey trades this off-season.

Rebuilding:
Ducks
Blackhawks
Flyers
Sharks

Ducks are the only team here that might look to make a splash. Flyers fluked into playoff contention but every move they made was for a rebuild. The question is whether they actually want to sell off their veteran assets.

Reportedly Looking to Improve:
Utah HC
Sabres
Flames
Blue Jackets
Red Wings
Senators

Utah definitely sounds motivated and have all the capspace and draft assets in the world to make moves. Sabres, Red Wings, and Senators all want to emerge from their rebuild. All the Flames moves have been for short term assets. Blue Jackets have spent a lot in each off-season, I don't think they'll suddenly change course.

Buyers:
Bruins
Hurricanes
Avalanche
Stars
Oilers
Panthers
Devils
Rangers
Lightning
Maple Leafs
Canucks
Golden Knights
Jets

A lot of these teams are cash strapped to varying degrees. Hurricanes have a lot of money and roster spots. Lightning, Maple Leafs, and Jets have some very interesting questions to answer about their rosters. Devils really just need a goalie. Canucks have shoved their contention window open and should be aggressive.

Who Knows:
Canadiens
Kings
Wild
Predators
Islanders
Penguins
Kraken
Blues
Capitals

Blues and Canadiens could sell off some pieces but those pieces aren't very attractive anyway (apart from Buchnevich). Islanders and Wild have no capspace. Blake seems to like acquiring RFAs and signing them to extensions so it's possible he does that again but there are pretty big holes on that roster. Kraken have been very conservative. No idea what the Capitals and Pengions plan on doing; both could stand pat or make big changes but rebuilding is not in the cards yet.

hasn't happened yet, but would imagine ehlers goes for something similar to buchnevich if st louis ends up moving him in the summer.

Wouldn't be surprised either, although I think Buchnevich will go for more. Makes for a very interesting off-season.

If you are talking to the Jets regarding Hronek, forget Ehlers, you target Connor even though the Nucks need to add.

Doubtful they move him but that’s the discussion.

Also, I’m all for bringing in Dillon to replace Ian “Canuck Killer” Cole.

Found a comparable for an Ehlers trade! Jeff Skinner.

Was on the final year of his contract when traded to the Sabres. Similar up and down career, although with no playoff record. About the same age.

Traded for Cliff Pu (overage OHLer that hadn't played in the AHL yet), 2nd, 3rd, and 6th.

I think Connor is untouchable.

A Hronek trade could be based around Pionk + a 1st round pick prospect like Lambert.

DeMelo is also an intriguing UFA from Winnipeg.

If I just go by AFP's current contract projects, plug in who the Canucks are rumoured to be interested in, swap Hronek for Ehlers, buyout Mikheyev, and sign Silovs to the same contract Podkolzin got you end up with this:

Joshua - 3y/3m
Tanev - 3y/4.68m
Zadorov - 4y/5.1m
Dillon - 2y/3.91m

Suter-Miller-Boeser
Hoglander-Pettersson-Ehlers
Joshua-XXX-Garland
Bains-Aman-Podkolzin
Di Giuseppe

Hughes-Tanev
Soucy-Zadorov
Dillon-Juulsen
Wolanin/Brisebois

Demko
Silovs

That leaves with 4.77m in space for a 3rd line centre. Could just sign Blueger (2y/2.56) and use the rest to upgrade on Juulsen (Myers, Chatfield or Desharnais) or grab anther bottom-6 option.
