Wow great to see that we are in the top tier in many categories. Face offs are a little concerning though.

No need to be concerned.
The perception of their importance for some reason has been taken up to levels of incredible heights here lately.. Probably due merely to our ranking thus far.

Perspective
60 faceoffs taken a night...45%-55% deficit = ~ 28-32 or 27-33 split.. not a highly significant issue... nor has it effected the team thus far.
Desharnais kills us last night on the dot (14/19).. but his line did nothing with it all night.

But it is the only stat that jumps out the way it does... so it will garner extra focus and attention.

20 game update....

overall the last 10 gms:.. basically the games of Nov...

- Played Cali 4 times: 2-1-1... outscored by 4,
- destroyed in Corsi by SJ by a crapload that made a dent in those rankings...
- The Az and LA blowouts punished our Goal diff... -9 in those 2 loses...
- 3 back-to-backs over this 10 game stretch which seems crazy to me.

In context.. our numbers are reflecting and supporting our standing right now...

Last night we were a shootout victory away from what would of been our best ever franchise start after 20 games? 14 wins... jeez.. I'll take the 13 and run!

it's been an enjoyable start to the season...

Things we've learned so far...

We are good at taking care of business vs the lower teams.. better than in past seasons..
We have 4 lines.
We match up very well vs Anaheim.
We are in tough on the 2nd half of back to backs unless its getting up to play Ana.
People can rest assured that healthy Sedins are still elite offensive players.

20 gms : 5

awe...

Our next 10 games:

Home to : Chi and NJD
then a SEVEN game road trip over about 14 days..
3 days off
then the 10th game is home vs the NYR.

But I've gotta say... perfect spacing for the games.... every other day... one single back to back..

Seems like we got worse in all the important categories and improved alot in faceoffs which is pretty ironic.

Thank you :handclap:

face offs .. with our actual numbers...

20 games
Won 615
Lost 655

-40.
Over 20 games, Thats 2 lost face offs per when there are 60+face offs/game taken.

I.e. I don't see how Horvat's face off ability will help keep him up... It has to be everything else before faceoffs. More of last game style play please. His faceoff duty considering his role as a member of the 4 th line is is a nice bonus at this point.

Saw a version of this in another thread....

Faceoff % of players that have taken at least 100 faceoffs. (99 in Horvat''s case)

1. Horvat - 62.6%
2. Malhotra - 62.3%
3. Hanzel - 59.9%
4. Helm - 59.3%
5. Letestu - 58.8%
6. Bergeron - 58.5%
7. Lappierre - 58.4%
8. Gaustad - 58.2%
9. Bozak - 57.7%
10. Kruger - 57.4%

Small sample size obviously since Bergeron has a 500+ faceoffs... but its a start.

So...

30 games in the books...

over the last 10 : 5-4-1...

With the exception of the last game, not too shabby overall.

We survived the 7 game road trip.... a lot of people were pointing to that as the next 'big' marker after the California trip and we tread water...

The next 10 games: 8 home games... 2 away..

How it breaks down:

vs Dal : which many here are already all jumpy and freaky about...
vs Cal
vs Az
@ Ana
@ SJ
vs LA
Vs Det
vs NYI
vs Fla - Luongo's return
vs Cal

Tucked in there is another California run. We went 2-1 on the road last time vs Cali...
I like the possibilities of another 12-14 pt run over this segment of games...

And... it could mark the last 10 game segment that excludes Dan Hamhuis...

at least discipline is improving and our pk is 4th?? that's a good thing right?

There's A LOT of good things. Just depends on what people want to focus on.

Despite what was a really rough part of the schedule... the numbers remained pretty stable... hell we did win half the games we played.

We get locked into what our own team is doing (i.e. our PP, the potential for our D to fall apart at times), some forget that every team experiences these ebbs and flows to their season just like we do.. and most of them are worse off than us...

But isn't it easier for me to overreact with each single win or loss, and get either extremely high or low based upon one game? :naughty:

Really appreciate this thread. Thank you. It's really handy to see these stats broken up in smaller bunches, and retained so that they're easily reviewed. Good stuff, man.

This is something that tripped me out... I was curious for how long i've done this thread (or a similar version)...

Turns out since 2007!

2007-2008 Stats... Started out just doing em on random dates... Then lost interest as the Canucks started to fade..
2008-2009 Stats... I followed thru the whole season on this one..
2009-2010 Stats... This one i faded after 60 games...
2010-2011 Stats... This one I see i only missed the final update... forgot to come back to it as the playoffs began....
2011-2012 Stats... I faded out again at 60 games...

My track record isn't good on following thru for 82...

2-1-1 in the present block of 10...
in the midst of a Cali run and a tough run of teams, but we are home heavy at least...

@ SJ
vs LA
vs Det
vs NYI
vs Luongo
vs Gaudreau

It will be a fun set of games coming up...

Well....
the best part of the flu hitting us at this point is that the teams below us are also losing and not taking advantage of us in the standings yet...

Van 40gms 49pts, last 10: 5-4-1, Lost 2
SJS 43gms 49pts, last 10: 4-5-1, Lost 2
LAK 42gms 48pts, last 10: 4-2-4, Lost 3
Cgy 43gms 47pts, last 10: 5-4-1, Won 1

Update in one more game so it's the real halfway point...
