i am bullish on bracco. the fact that he's a right shooting skill player that can play the bumper position on the powerplay gives me dreams of him finding a way to make our club this season. i have tried to make a habit of catching a few of his games every season because of a keeper league and he's just incredibly gifted with his vision and edgework but that has never been the question. defense has to catch up and he's getting short on time no matter how dynamic he is offensively. there's some corey locke vibes but same as it was with him, the right role could make the difference. he was the all time leading assist man for the national development team until jack hughes passed him and that list is full of household names. he's got to find his finish again but i think a lot of what was seen with him last season was frustration. he was flat out dynamic against charlotte in the calder cup playoffs and that might be part of the reason he's getting this opportunity. he's got teuvo level creativity with his passes but he has to do more in terms of a complete game if he's going to make it here. i think we'll get him at his inspired best.

re: substance abuse concerns, that would not surprise me in the least considering how warry everyone has been of him during his career. from an on ice perspective, he should have gotten a far better look than he did. if that's the concern, that makes sense as to why it didn't happen for him. lots of weird turns in his story. from leaving boston college after 5 games to go to kitchener then being dealt by them and surprise omissions from the world juniors one season. hopefully the time he took away last season helped him address that situation.

Didn't Foegele follow a similar path? Leaving just games into College hockey season to join the OHL? Or am I thinking of another one of our prospects?

Edit it was 35 games, and he was also traded by the OHL club

Hard to read too much into that part of things!

I believe Bracco might have been the player that was hinted at in the recent Athletic article. The one that Brindamour was wary about because he showed up to camp out of shape.

Interesting:

Sheldon Rempal - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

He is said to become RFA upon expiry of his SPC.

But he already became UFA courtesy of not getting a QO after the expiry of his previous SPC.

CBA 10.2 (a)(iv) said:
In the event a Prior Club fails to make a Qualifying Offer as set forth in
this Section 10.2 and fails to elect salary arbitration pursuant to Section
12.3(a), the Player shall immediately become an Unrestricted Free Agent
and shall be completely free to negotiate and sign an SPC with any Club,
and any Club shall be completely free to negotiate and sign an SPC with
any such Player, without penalty or restriction or being subject to any
Right of First Refusal, Draft Choice Compensation, or any other
compensation or equalization obligation of any kind.

I always thought that once they let you go UFA you are UFA for good, but apparently that's not the case: he doesn't meet the qualifications to be Group 3 or Group 5 UFA, so he will be an RFA.

You live and learn.

i was so excited about bracco that i didn't look into rempal, who is an interesting player of his own accord. same deal with being an undersized rhs rw. it's interesting because them loading up on that spot makes me wonder if they're going to have a battle royal for that spot on the 2nd unit and decided against signing any marquee names. i think geekie's spot in the lineup is vulnerable for certain and with how he was deployed in the playoffs they might want to give him a little more time to go be a leader in chicago. it would be interesting to see if seth jarvis could work his way into consideration. i think if they're wanting a skill option on the 3rd line wing you might consider him unless the plan is to keep him up the middle. lots of our top forwards are center prospects. rees, drury, suzuki, pony, etc. some of them are going to end up on the wing eventually.

Did the athletic article say NHL player? Or was it not specific?

No one's wasting their breath on someone like Bracco being out of shape.

Yeah they were probably talking about Chris Terry or something

(Was Googling for this not funny joke and had somehow repressed that Chris Terry played two full seasons for the Canes. I would’ve said a few callups. Woof.)

But no seriously, always good to have more depth. I don't know much on Rempal but Gust has been a good AHLer and Bracco could always end up being another McKegg eventually
McKegg had some semblance of an interest in defense and in working out. Been rooting for Bracco since junior, and then as a Marlie but he's disappointed...and after finding out what he allegedly did to a rookie in junior, I'm not sad to see him go. While technically a "good" skater, he's a weird skater. He employs a 10-2 skating style very well, but strength on the puck/on his feet and straight ahead speed leave a lot to be desired. Could be something if your staff can get through to him.
Or Kapanen and Johnsson.

I guess Dermott and Liljegren will be in every proposal for them now.
Leaf fans actually like those 2, we only offer our scraps...some fans go full used car salesman when making trade proposals.
