Bracco's been good in the AHL, just for some reason, Toronto's never called him up, as they've either always sort of pegged him as a AAAA guy or just found him redundant with so many offensively-minded right shots on their forward roster. Who knows? Not a bad bunt play by any means.

Also, Gust did really well in Charlotte last year as an AHL signing, so I'm happy that the Canes actually signed him to an NHL two-way this year.

I guess Toronto might have just thought Bracco was more of the same for what they already had in the NHL (you could maybe argue that a little here). You'd still think you'd give a guy like that a chance for a chance at cheap depth or the possibility to move out one of the big 4 forwards or one of the more expensive depth guys if he really takes off. He probably won't amount to much here either but he seems like he'd be good to have in the AHL regardless.

The Canes, as an organization, aren't exactly afraid of "more of the same" if the talent is there (see Brady Skjei). Maybe Bracco really shows up in training camp, so who really knows?

there are some weird stories of Bracco from Toronto fans. I havent seen anything that says why he wasnt called up.

Unless these weird stories are true and he is seen as a locker room concern.

Also, a fan says he is allergic to the corners, in front of the net, and really doesn't like to play in the defensive zone. I havent watched him so, I have no idea what is what.

Bracco is a niche player. While there's always space for size, two-way play and probably goal scoring, there's only so much room in a lineup for an undersized playmaker.

You can look at this team right now and see that he has no clear path of making it outside of a 13th forward-type role. He's not a fit with the Finns, not what Trocheck and Necas need, not suited to play on a grind line with Staal and not beating out the quality 4th liners this team possesses.

Does anyone know what it is about Bracco that prevented a call up? Was it size? Speed?

Is it the Leafs requirements of forwards to play def-I'm sorry I can't even type that entire sentence.

Young RH offensive talent is great for a flier.

Bracco was one of the guys involved.

He has elite vision and passing talent, good edges, but is average, or less elsewhere. He was sent home from the Marlies for months, rumours were rehab, though Dubas and co were tight lipped. Dubas didn’t even want to talk about him recently when asked, they just didn’t want him back.

Edit --> He's VERY good (passing) on the PP... if someone needed a PP specialist in the NHL, he might be able to stick on that.

The ultimate reality is he's probably Toronto's verision of a Saarela, Boychuk, Bowman, etc. A guy who kills it in the AHL but just doesn't have the dimension to make it in the NHL. I remember all the hand-wringing many of us did over guys like Saarela and Zykov not getting callups, or being given a chance to prove themselves, or they were blocked by depth...and so far they've not amounted to anything more than great AHLers. Alex Giroux was a PPG+ AHLer for much of his scareer, even put up 50 & 60G seasons but couldn't seem to make the NHL jump
