Yeah, outplaying 2 waiver-wire pickups and a guy who made $800K last year is an insurmountable task, for sure.
It's hard to say who will slot at RW since we have a lot of guys who naturally play C or LW, but our wingers are definitely 4 deep with guys who will be slotted over Miller (Skinner, Stempniak, Teravainen, Aho) and then there's Nestrasil/Nordstrom who happened to be the wingers with Staal on Bill Peters' favorite line last season. On a given night, Lindholm might be in the picture for a top-9 slot as well. That's seven legit competitors for six slots.
If anyone should get bumped out of the top-9, there's Bickell, Stalberg, and Di Giuseppe to compete with.
It would be more than slightly surprising if Miller, a 27 year old minor leaguer, was skating a regular shift in Raleigh to start the season. He would basically have to become a different player between now and October.
