5 Canes on COVID list... If no more go on it today, tomorrow, Friday then I don't really see why we wouldn't be able to play Saturday? What's the point of the taxi squad if games will be postponed for a small outbreak like this? It'd hurt the Canes obviously but big picture I think the NHL should try to play as many games on schedule as possible, like the NFL did and the NBA has kind of done. Maybe they need to change their protocols to test more often, or is that a cost issue for the league?

Saturday is 5 days from Tuesday. That's about the right time for a test to start hitting positive on someone exposed and having the virus incubate. These interim tests could continue to show up as negatives for a few days while the virus incubates at a low level inside them.

By Saturday or Sunday, I would feel confident the rest of the team is clear of the players identified on Tuesday. The 26th is a week later and a reasonable time to start playing again if there are no further positives. But that also assumes you have time to get some skating in before Tuesday.

So did the NFL and NBA just ignore that 5 days thing or does that depend on the type of test?

The NFL massaged their rules quite a bit to get some of those games in. There were quite a few times where they moved a game one day, which really didn't make much of a difference in the timeline.

I haven't been following how the NBA is isolating teams with multiple tests.

Cause I caused the Covid by doing a GDT after having won a game by doing the GDT... Obviously I'm cursed and banned from future GDT's for the season...

It is with great sacrifice that I am exiled from Making GDT's. May the Canes win whence they return.
This is the kind of of accountability that is sorely missing in this world and truly undervalued. Kudos to you for taking one for the team!

I move we should also suspend those who even LIKED his original post!

I realize that will include me, but my righteous fury must be sated!!!!!
As one who has done GDT's in the past on other Canes boards, I understand the dynamic that comes with the territory of having the team's win or loss associated with said GDT. We hold ourselves to the highest of (unrealistic) standards and superstitions. It is a struggle we live and die with, with our reputations on the line with the outcome of each game. This is real!!

We never made playoffs in three consecutive seasons, so there's that.

We can't miss the playoffs if nobody else gets to play their games either

If they aren’t breaking NHL protocols they can’t fine them. The protocols may need to be re-examined. I read somewhere they aren’t rapid testing daily like the NFL was. That seems like a real f***ing stupid thing to do.
Rapid testing gives bad results tho ... I feel like that would be for optics only.

99-00 was the first season, the canes were the only team with zero otl's that year. of course.

same year ot went 4 on 4

edit to add - obviously the loser point changed how teams approached end of game and overtime, but based solely off the way teams' records shook out if the points system from the previous years had been used the canes would have jumped both buffalo and pittsburgh for the seven seed in 2000.

Nothing stopping them from doing both other than saving a few million league wide. Rapid testing on the day of games especially makes sense because you don't need to do it on team off days. But given it's the NHL, I guess that could be the difference between Bettman eating or not.
